How accurate are these BCI stage increase maps? - RTENL DTT

I don't have the facts regarding ERP's and antenna setups from the main RTENL DTT sites. I have however 'best guessed' and plotted some coverage maps and LOS for Clermont, Mullaghanish, Maghera, Kippure, Three Rock, Cairn Hill and Mt Leinster.

Baring in mind antenna setups, restrictions and overspill from Clermont, Cairn Hill & Kippure, i make the assumption that other sites are omni-directional. Some of the listed ERP's don't add up and are considerably less than what is written. For example Clermont listed as 50KW VRP i calculate as 39.61KW. Again i can only work from the manufacturers specs and know nothing of the gain figures. I do however have the combiner efficiency figures and feeder losses fairly accurately.

These BCI maps that were released i assume were reference offer documents provided by potential customers to provide an initial Multiplex in Ireland?

I think the BCI maps are not realistic of what RTE NL is doing

I was going to do some coverage plots. But had not got round to confirming mast height, directivity (or not) and EIRP etc.

I think BT did them as part of the "Fantasy" of selling a pay DTT licence. Which in reality had been on market since 2000 or 2001.

My advice is go with what you know and ignore anything to do with BCI.

The coverage maps on the BCI website were supplied by RTÉNL (as the DTT transmission company) to the three consortia bidding for the three commercial multiplexes in early 2008. The various documents incl. maps, rollout schedule etc. were attached to the applications submitted to the BCI.

The 2008 RTÉNL plan is now out of date since the commercial process ended in failure last May. A new plan (less transmission sites & Saorsat) was submitted by RTÉNL to the Minister for approval in June.

Yes, but oddly I don't think RTE NL did the coverage plots. Or else we are talking about different maps.

The maps I'm referring to are the ones attached to the three commercial mux applications in the link in my post above. The reference to RTÉNL is included somewhere in the documentation, can't remember the specific doc - last time I read them was almost two and half years ago. History now in any case.
