    Hi,

As a second year, can I transfer from a joint honours (english and music) to a single honours? (english)

    Cheers,

    Kevin

I seriously doubt it - my friend's brother does that course, and he had separate modules in first year as well as second year, so you would probably have missed too much. You could try ask in the department office though, the secretary probably knows more than me!

Oh and if you want to change because of the creative writing, I know they do MAs in that in Queens and Trinners :)

Nothing like that, I just feel taking two subjects is too much for me.. I just feel I should give either one my fullest attention in order to reap the most from it. I like English, I read loads... too much... I wish I could concentrate on just one basically.

I hope this isn't rude, but are you registered with the Disability or Access Office? If you are, and you think two subjects are too much for you, they might be able to sort something out.

Also, even if you switched to the other English degree you would still have to do another subject as it's a major/minor, not single honours.

I do the English degree myself (first year at the moment) and I don't think you can. It seems to be stuck with only twenty of us. Even then, there wouldn't be a lot of use in moving in second year. We do four extra English modules in first year, which decreases to two extra modules in second, until none extra in third, though there is a dissertation to do. There's a lot missed if you're not there in first year, like the entirety of the History of Ideas course and the novel/short story side of the Creative Writing module.

Even then, it's not a single honours degree. We have to minor in another subject as well, so, if you were to move into the course, you'd have to keep one of your subjects up. Do feel free to ask, though, as anything could happen - one of us could not pass the year or something, and a space would open up. Not me, though. Perish the thought.

EDIT: It appears I'm a slow typer. :pac:

No, I'm not. I'll call into the office tomorrow and I'll just pose a few questions.

I wish I'd got the chance to do it, it sounds really interesting. Wasn't on offer back in the olden days when I filled in my CAO form though :pac:

Good luck with it Kevin, hopefully you will be able to work something out!
