Posted this on wrong board yesterday.
Phoned Sky to cancel my multiroom. She offered a reduction from 15euro to 10euro. I turned it down. Trying to reduce the money I pay to Mr. Murdoch.

Go freesat then, he'll only take notice when nobody is willing to pay for his shoddy product.

How did you get it to €15 in the first place ?

    I thought that was standard
€15 on top of whatever your package is to get Multiroom.

The Box actually gets MORE free UK channels when you don't use the Irish card, no sub.

Upstairs we will be going freesat next year.

God you hate Sky/Pay TV- a huge amount of people choose to pay for tv for the choice it offers,a bit more than karaoke/dancing/bushtucker shows.Even the guys in the foreign satellite section pay for their tv. I agree Sky is overpriced in Ireland but don't preach about ditching it at every chance that presents itself. The choice is there for the public let them make it. Petrol is overpriced in Ireland-should everyone ditch their cars and buy a bike.?

Zerks, Problem of course is that Sky are money grabbing feckers who have been tying people into channels they dont want for too long. The majority of the channels being bundled are free to air (9 out of the top 10 channels watched in Ireland are FTA - most people dont know that).

And the guys on the foreign satellite forum probably are more like minded to free to air nuts (no offense to the nuts) than they think. Its all about value for money, thats why people are subscribing to alternative foreign satellite packages from other satellite providers mostly for the main commodity - soccer, some of which dont have commentary in english. Again the availability of Cyfra/Tring/Polsat etc is not something that your average Joe knows about and who have stupidly put their trust in those monopolising service provision.

The use of proprietary set top boxes, restriction on recordings, the monopoly on soccer supply and how it is supplied by Sky within UK and Ireland is farcical.

Nobody can afford to be paying €70+ per month on pay Tv and lots are rethinking and cancelling. Hence Sky's policy of offering individual discounts. People who have had Sky subscriptions from the Celtic tiger days and are still paying Celtic tiger rates is the root of all this . Honestly the second class citizen like disrespect shown and different pricing structure offered to the Irish by Sky has been going on too long. There is no customer loyalty payback for these long paying customers. Murdoch Inc is happy to take the cash until you say no, then they react with a we have pushed it too far like offers. Multiroom fees are a disgraceful insult to anyone intelligence. Its like dealing with a Turkish street trader.

But you knew all that. TBH I just needed a rant. Thanks for listening. I am okay now, I think.

The problem with fta channels the majority watch is the content-a few gems amongst a huge amount of dross where the public are brainwashed into following the fortunes of characters in soapland or cajoled into spending money voting for 'celebrities' and wanabees by mindless reality shows. The Channel 4 family of channels is the only fta I'd watch on a regular basis. The sport was bid for by Sky and they offered the most, without that money we wouldn't see the class of players on the field that we get now.Times are hard and people are cutting back on the luxury of premium channels on Pay TV but keep a couple of lower tier mixes to keep everyone happy-I'd be disappointed to lose my Knowledge pack and the likes of FX for my drama. The most invalid argument I recently heard was a guy ditching sport 'cos it was too dear and he could watch all the games in the pub-surely a more expensive exercise?
I totally agree we are being ripped off with pricing-the government were able to stand up and ring fence certain sports etc. in the interest of the Irish public, they could surely stand up to Sky/UPC and tell them insofar as they are selling their product in Ireland they shall be subject to Irish law and taxes. That's a lot of money heading out of the country that we could do with. It's just a fact that what FTA offers is so limited compared to pay tv and that's where the big boys win.Still it's nice to hear of people getting deals as retention sweeteners and more power to them.
What I don't like are militant FTA advocates constantly shouting that Sky/UPC are evil and we should ditch them-digital spy forums are full of them and I'd hate for boards to end up the same.

I ditched SkySports last year. I do miss the Heinkien Cup Rugby but that is all. Sky is/has destroyed soccer but thats for another board.

I will be going the free to air/ free sat route by the summer next year.
I need a sat reciever with recording facilities and the ability to recieve terrestrial via aerial.

'I need a sat reciever with recording facilities and the ability to recieve terrestrial via aerial.'

I had the same requirement and now use an Edison Argus Mini 2 in 1.
FTA satellite and Irish DTT received, with USB external hard drive recording (also pause/rewind live TV). It doesn't have a dual Satellite tuner, so the watch one/record another options are limited, also being FTA, the EPG is not as comprehensive as a Freesat or Sky receiver. The main advantage to me was the inclusion of a DTT tuner for the Irish digital services.

It's not as feature rich as a Sky + box, but for the money paid and the lack of a pay TV contract cost, I am happy with the facilities that it has. In the end it depends on how much TV you have the time to watch and how much you want to pay for it.
