Just wondering has anyone come across any shops in Ireland
that still sell's actual wind up watches that are accurate ?

With batteries and watches that charge themselves up from
the movement of your wrist to the retro LCD watch that was powered by beer I've not heard of the bog-standard old school wind me up type watches in ages.

The last winding watch I had was from my grandfather who gave it to me as very young teenager after getting my fingers accidentally slammed
on the door of a car. I remember it was a gold coloured simple watch with an elastic metal strap which was all the rage back then.

earlier in life from my first holy communion I was given a Micky Mouse wind up watch (which was expensive at the time) with Micky mouse in the face with his hands being the hour/min it also had a bright red seconds hand on the watch.

Other than that the only wind up's watch wise was the grandfathers gold pocket watch which my father broke in his youth which got repaired
and when I was growing up I nearly broke when finding its hiding spot and poking about with it.

Yeah, wind up, or mechanical watches are still around big time.

Most of the high end stuff is, as Paint Doctor just said.

My favorites are the Automatics i.e. a self-winding mechanical watch. They work by the movement of your wrist & hold their 'charge' for a day or 2 depending on the make.

They need'nt cost the earth either.

Swatch did a range of them a few years ago, prob still do. I have a couple of them.

I'm guessing it should still be easy to get some kind of Automatic for well under 100 Euro.

What I mostly remember about these is, as time went by, the winder would become stiff and difficult to turn and would leave a black line on your thumb and forefinger!

I got a Timex wind-up watch as a Christmas present at the end of 1980. It had a black face with white numbers, luminous hands and a red second hand. I prized that little timepiece and I was heartbroken when I lost it three years later.
