inflow into cistern

I recently leaned on the inflow pipe going into my cistern and broke the plactic pipe comes the cistern. It connects to copper half inch pipe with a copper nut on top of the pipe. I've bought a new plastic pipe and internal cister fittings easy plumb type from b&q but the copper nut does not tighten on it hence water is pissing out of the nut. the plastic seems too small for the nut although it is hafl inch I think - no marjing on the pack.
t as I've had to turn off all the upstairs cold water at the valve to stop the flow. Would some plumbers tape work on this?

is this the fitting you mean?

if so there should be a fibre washer inside the nut (normally red), if its missing or broke then it will pass water, you can wrap some plumbers tape around it to make up the space that the washer would take up.

if not, post a pic so I can advise better

thats the one I've got. is the washer a fairly big one? not sure I've got one of those. maybe I could even make one from rubber piece or from larger washer.

the washer is the same as the one shown here

there is a lip inside the fitting for the washer to sit around, wrap plumbers tape around this 15-20 times until its nearly out as far as the lip, this should act like a washer and seal your leak
