This statement below appeared today..... there will never be any charges brought against anybody on a senior level in the banks, or anybody remotely responsible for the massive public dept we are all paying for. I can see the finds in a few months time ' insufficent evidence'

"Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy has asked a senior officer to make contact with the chief executive and chairman of the National Asset Management Agency in relation to claims that banks gave misleading information to the agency about the scale of their losses.
In a letter to Oireachtas finance committee member Michael McGrath TD, the commissioner said the officer would see if there was any evidence of a criminal offence."

do you really believe that as corruption is so prevalent in all echelons of Irish politics , banking , business etc , that the judicatory and gardai(not necessarily the rank and file ) are not equally as corrupt ?. insiders protecting insiders !

I for one would vote for any party that pledges that when it gets in to make public all the large borrowers with the size and timing of the transactions in Anglo, BoI et al Also all the minutes of cabinet meetings, department meetings relating to the finances over the past ten years.

But no cowardly party in this country is ever going to grass up any other elements of the cosy, evil cartel so .... are there any whistleblowers in the banks and public sector that can send that fine fella at WikiLeaks any tasty docs?

    There won't be any prosecutions.

They might fine a few people and that's essentially the cost of criminal activity when you're from the financial elite

    Jail? not a hope..

I've considered pursuing a career in finance after seeing how much criminal activity can be swept under the carpet and forgotten about.

They would send some honest hard working man to jail quicker for not paying taxes.

Some of the richest people don't pay any tax at all and are up to their necks in criminal activities, but hey..let's not discuss that.

    Democracy..what's it worth? :D

Senator David Norris: Tuesday, 23 February 2010
If we are not prepared to face the issue and investigate it when it has been laid before the House, there is absolutely no hope for the financial system or its reputation worldwide.

this has probably been posted before:

    http://www.thepost.ie/story/eysnqlauey/
A large number of the documents Anglo Irish Bank is withholding from the authorities relate to the ‘golden circle’ deal, when the bank arranged for ten customers to buy a 10 per cent stake in the bank in an undisclosed deal.

    ...

However, the loans were predominantly given on a nonrecourse basis, which meant they were secured on the shares themselves, which are now worthless.

The High Court last week accused Anglo of contributing to a delay in the investigation, and asked the bank to reconsider its decision to assert legal privilege.

The bank has two weeks to respond, during which time it is expected to consult with Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan.

The minister can overrule the bank’s decision at any time.

There will be no prosecutions - getting anything done in ireland seems to take forever and cost more than anywhere else when it suits. We may aswell have a few more tribunals!

These statements always pop up whenever the government are getting some slack over the banks.

So what we are dealing with here is protecting human rights and innocent before proven guilty etc.

So worst that can happen is that they get charged incorrectly, get off and then take a case against the stage for a few million in compo.

So... Why don't they just arrest them all, through them in Mountjoy for a few nights, pay some of the ladies to totally sodomise (look that word up if you don't understand it;)) them for a few days, then let them out and say... Oh, were sending across a file to the DPP, get back to you soon.

Public are satisfied now, what's another few million for a good level of satisfaction :D

Its not a statement, it is clear evidence of gross mismanagement put forth by Senator Norris!

Transparancy is key. Otherwise even if they arent crooked they look crooked.

Google abit of Norris' speech "there is absolutely no hope for the financial system or its reputation worldwide. "

Look where it turns up, all over the world! Its source is the Oireachtas the accuser a Senator. People think we're crooked, no wonder they wont lend to us.

Naw..They will just set up another multi million euro tribunal, will last at least 10 years and for the sole benefit of their legal buddies and just a massive heap of reports at its eventual conclusion..i.e a load of hogwash!
Would be prepared to pay my share if i saw justice imposed on the perpetrators of this rape of our nation..Justice needed not law...We live in hope!!

I think this is probably the biggest part of what has happened in the last 2 years that annoys me the most.

Not one person has been held accountable. Not one. And it's all very well to say "well what would that achieve?". It doesn't have to achieve anything. It would create a precedent if nothing, it would serve as a warning, and it would make the Irish people feel just that little bit better. Use them as an example - sure aren't we being used as an example by Europe???Because dress it up as you will, there was a LOT of very shady dealings going on, and they all directly fed into the ruination of this country.
