Sky Magic Eye Sound Interference

Hi, I'm having an annoying sound issue with my Sky Magic Eye (TV-Link) setup.

I have an Amstrad 500GB HD box with the RF2 output enabled to use with a second TV in another room. Without the Magic Eye everything works fine. Picture and Sound are clear. However when I plug in my Magic Eye to control the Sky box from the remote room I get a perfect picture but an annoying low frequency "tudding" sound in the background. It gets worse when you Pause/FastForward/Rewind the Sky HD box. It's almost like the sound is getting fed through from the Sky box hard disc.

I don't think it's any possible interference to do with the RF2 channel. It's only an issue with the Magic Eye in place.

Anyone got any ideas or is this a known issue?

    Thanks!

It is a known issue. Try dripping candle wax on the coils in the RF modulator section. This should reduce the "microphony" (they pick up the sound of the Hard Drive clonking).

Thanks for the feedback. When you say "RF modulator" do you mean on the back of the Sky box or on the TV Link?

    He means inside the box.
If its newish and still within warranty then i'd have it changed.

Thanks, from what I can gather it seems to be an issue on all of these Amstrads. Here's the same issue and solution I've just found on AV forums:
    http://www.avforums.com/forums/sky-hd-sky-3d/1363466-sky-hd-hard-drive.html

The thing I don't understand is why is it only an issue with the Magic Eye in place?
Setup1: RF2 Out to Remote TV and No Magic Eye the sound is perfect on Remote TV.
Setup2: RF2 Out to Remote TV with Magic Eye in line and the noise is present in Remote TV.

If the coils were the issue then wouldn't it be present on both setups? Or is it a case that the Magic Eye somehow amplifies the clonking sound as it passes through?

I can't explain it but I'd be interested to know if wax solves it. Just drip a tiny amount on the coils in the RF modulator section, where the RF output sockets are connected to the PCB. It only needs enough to prevent the coils from vibrating. (I assume you can recognise a wire coil.)

Yeap, I know what a coil looks like. Still not convinced it will work as in my opinion it should occur on both setups if it was the coil back at the source. It's only when I add the Magic Eye at the sink end (remote TV) that I get the interference.

Thanks for your help though, much appreciated and will post a result here if I decide to give it a go. Cheers
