Taxing my new car?

I bought a car from auction and collected it on Monday the 29th.

I went onto the motor tax website today. It said I cannot tax it until I receive the tax book and I will have to tax it for November.

Is there anyway for me to tax the car without having to pay for November as it was only two days, both of which were spent in my mechanics yard.

    Yes.

    https://www.motortax.ie/OMT/pdf/RF100A_en.pdf

Section 7 At the bottom of the form is for "Declaration of Non Use", fill that in to say that the vehicle wasnt in use for November, get it stamped in a Garda Station and bingo bango you can pay tax from this month onwards.

I drove it home alright but driving a car for 15 minutes in a month doesn't warrant paying for a full month in my books.

It needed a new battery and a back wheel bearing done so wasn't on the road after that. With paying for the car, insurance, work done thus far and a new timing belt going in next week, I need to save money where I can.

Can I tax the car before I get the tax book or do I need to wait?

if the car was subject to the 1566Eur/2100Eur high tax rates would your answer be the same?

Get off the horse, they dont handle the ice well.

Sorry gents but since when did paying due taxes become optional? No apology for the elevated equine :D

p.s. If the car wasn't driven on the public road it's not an issue.

seriously man, if your tax was over a grand and you drove for 15 mins in the whole month I'd love to see you paying for the whole month . You can pretend your perfect mate but I really doubt it...

Use the last 6 digits of the VIN to tax it on line.

It's a black and white issue. Either a liability exists, or it doesn't.

If a month's tax was that financially significant perhaps the wrong car was purchased?

    Giddy up! :D

p.s. Having said all that anyone who pays a months tax for a 15 minute undetected jaunt is ever so slightly insane.
