Just got a call from home that a package came for me from play.com and they guy had to ask for 17 euro customs charge!

It was 1 item, a blu ray box set which cost 52 euro. I told them to pay them and I can sort it out later.

Is that right? Is there anything I can do?

They ship out of Jersey.. and it's not in the EU.

So there's not much you can do bar pay it. It's roughly 21% VAT (€11) + €6 handling fee.

Ah right. So any single item over roughly 20 euro and I'm better off getting it from somewhere else?

Yep.. anything over €22 (I think) is liable.

I'd be amazed if that same boxset was much more expensive on Amazon.. they're your best bet.

Ah well.. live and learn.. I've been caught out too buying a media drive from Hong Kong.

Same price on Amazon, went with Play because of free shipping.:o

Disgusted but as you say, live and learn.

Ahh, but was it the same price in sterling? If so, it would have worked out cheaper on Amazon as you could pay in sterling, and not Play.com's inflated euro conversion.

And since it was over £25, you would have got free shipping with Amazon.

Stop making me sicker!!!!:pac:............no but honestly that's good to know. I'll go with Amazon if the order is over 22 euro from now on.

    Cheers!

Free Supersaver delivery on orders over £25 on Amazon is great. Just remember you have to select Supersaver delivery at checkout, as by default it selects the standard shipping method, which is not free.
