New Audi A6

I'm surprised all the VAG heads in this forum haven't noticed that this has been revealed....

    http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/AllCars/254379/

Then again, having looked at it for the third time, I still can't tell any difference between this and the A4, or A8 for that matter.

Diesels only for Ireland, bar the S6 I think. Well the UK is getting diesels only bar the 3.0 TFSI and there is hardly any point in bringing that over to Ireland given the Irish phobia of anything even remotely large engined.

To be fair to the car, the cabin looks very special (but of course it is the same as the A7 and that is nice too) with all the fancy options. It probably won't look half as good in poverty spec Irish spec though.

The 3.0 V6 Multitronic diesel is in VRT band B, now that is impressive when a RWD six cyl 5 series is in band D.

The UK is getting sat nav and a few other nice toys as standard.

No doubt the Irish cars won't though:(.

Nothing to excite, nothing to offend. Interior does look nice though.

Audi's design team have to be the most overpayed shower I have ever come across.

Looks like they have swapped their pencils for measuring tapes.

Ah sure we will just make the A4 a bit longer!!!

Very hard to get excited about the marque these days.

    zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Seriously boring car. Nothing memorable about it at all.

In my opinion, that A6 is by far and away the best effort out of current A4, new A8 & itself. Its pretty damn nice.
Alot of people will be rather upset having bought the current facelifted version with the replacement coming so soon.

I doubt it. They'll have stay awake long enough to notice! :D

That is a bit dissapointing to look at, and I'm not mad on the Audi interiors.

It does seem like the boffins have been busy doing magical things with the emissions though, so hopefully it will be able to compete price wise with the 5 Series.

Last info I had was that it's due to Irish shores in quater 2 2011, and will initially only be the 2.0Tdi Manual, with bigger engines and auto following toward the end of quater 3 for Jan 2012 (realistically).

Minimum spec is going to have to include leather and Bluetooth to compete with the 5 Series, which is whupping Audi's behind throughout Europe.

There probably are, I just remember reading it somewhere.

Sure someone will dig them out to prove me wrong though

I still think audi lag behind mercedes and bmw even though they are classy cars they just dont have the appeal of the others.

Not a hope unless you buy the s-line. I wont be ordering one anyway because Audi arent as good as there supposed to be and its too expensive aswell..

Edit thats the top of the range in those pics. See the bang and olfusen speakers... That wood is god awful. Ikea`s best.

I'm fairly sure Leather is standard now, not sure about Bluetooth.

The current model is nearly 7 years old so to keep it somewhat competitive they needed to spec it up. A neighbour of mine has a 09 facelifted 2.0 litre TDi model and it has a leather interior.

The 3.0 V6 Multitronic diesel is in VRT band B,
Any chance they will offer the 3.0 diesel engine in the Skoda Superb Estate?

Pretty dull alright. I wonder what the S6/RS6 in a decent colour will look like? Only S Audis get any special treatment.

    eg current gen "normal" A6:
    audi-a6-4558.jpg
    Current gen RS6:
    audi_rs6_saloon_2008_022.jpg

In person the difference is bigger, in 2D you cannot easily see the flared arches, brushed Alu mirrors, lower stance, wide wheels, more aggressive body front and rear etc.

But yeah, they may have taken the "reserved" look a bit too far now.

Leather isnt standard in that model unless its a s-line. It was probably speced as an extra.

It wasnt standard back then, but it is now. I'm fairly sure it is anyhow.

    Wrong - 3 petrols initially for Ireland - 2.0TFSI 180, 2.8FSI 204 and 3.0TFSI 300 quattro. Cheapest engine overall in range will be the 2.0TFSI 180.

Launch here will be early April - 2.0TDI 170 manual and 3.0TDI 204 auto from launch, also 3.0TDI 245 quattro. Spec will be above that of 5 Series ;)

Not 100% about Europe this year esp as new 5 Series obliterated everyone since launch, but worldwide A6 outsells both 5 series and E class - just not in Ireland.

SE came with leather last year. Current runout edition comes with leather and 18" alloys at complimentary upgrade and innovation pack (nav, bose, bluetooth, ipod connection) for 1k - normally costs nearly 6k

I wonder if a glove box light will be standard? That has been one of the most stupid spec decisions on the current A4 and A5.

I heard the Audi styling team became a victim of recession cutbacks and were replaced with this:

    619784074_product.jpg

It's really quite simple. When they were designing the A8 for instance, they just got an A4, put it through and clicked 'enlarge'.

Wonder will they release anything to compete with the 535d? Always wished they come up with a twin-turbo V6 diesel competitor.

They could stick the V8 TDI from the new A8 into it, that would kill a 535d. Don't see that happening though!

Depends on what you look for. Of those three, I'd put the 5-Series at the bottom of my shopping list. Fairly ugly on the outside, and not really all that wondrous inside either. They're resting a lot on the 'Driving Machine' bit, and not so much on the 'luxury' bit.

Audis have never been the most visually extravagant cars in the world, but that could be a good thing given what happened to the previous generation 5-Series and E-class cars. Plus, I personally spend a lot more time on the inside looking out than outside looking in, and Audi interiors aren't bad at all.

Were I in the market for a replacement for my current A6, I'd be taking a good look at the new one. Then again, as my other car's an S4, I guess I'm a bit biased towards Audi.

They did exactly the same with the B5.5

Can't agree with this, IMO it is a handsome car with great proportions, the interior is leagues ahead of it's previous efforts and feels very special, and regarding your last point if anything this latest 5 moves away from 'driving machine' and much more towards 'luxury', and has received criticised from some quarters for doing so.

I know on A7 there is rumours of a biturbo 300BHP 3.0TDI - not 100% if it will make it to A6 though.

That kind of engine in the A6 is long overdue given that the 535d has been going since 2004. It was great to see jaguar offer the 3.0d S as a competitor. Hopefully this new TDI will materialise and be in the A6 by the time I can afford one!:D

If you look on SIMI you can see that Audi has outsold BMW almost 2:1 in Ireland last year. They are also outselling them so far this year. http://www.simi.ie/statistics/documents/StatsPressRel2009_017.xls

In Europe too, Audi outsold BMW last year and are outselling them this year http://www.simi.ie/statistics/documents/20101015_PRPC-FINAL-1009.pdf

It doesnt have a break down of the A6 v the 5 Series though

Just goes to show, you can't please everybody!

I wonder if Mercedes hasn't nailed it with the current E-Class, though? I'm seeing a lot more of them around these parts right now. Though in fairness, the amount of Jag XFs is noticably increasing.

The A4 is wiping the floor with the 3 series, likewise with the A3 and 1 Series. Thats why the figures are the way they are.
I'd imagine they are reversed for the A6 and 5 series.
