Gas boiler temp selector dial

I have a gas boiler installed in my house. The label on the underside of it proclaims it to be a Vokera Mynute 24M, although I cannot find any reference to this boiler on the literature section of the Vokera website (http://www.vokera.co.uk/home-owners/literature/).

The question I have is regarding the built in temperature selector. It has a gauge on the left and right with an 'auto' option at the top of the dial, similar to the one on the manual for the Mynute EHE (found here: http://vokera.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/mynute-ehe-user-manual.pdf) Usually we would have the dial set a few notches to the left of where the 'auto' range begins but recently I moved the dial into the 'auto' range. This seems to have had a dramatic effect on the heating, with most of the rads heating up to a much higher temperature than before. This is not a bad thing but I am worried that I might be burning too much gas this way. I would not like to be faced with an unnecessarily large heating bill in a couple of months!

The manual for the Mynute EHE claims the following about the Auto setting: "Automatic temperature control function (SARA), permits the boiler (when the heating temperature selector is set within the AUTO sector) to automatically adjust (raise) the heating flow outlet temperature during inclement weather."

I have thermostatic valves on all of the rads in the house but I do not have a central thermostat in the house, if that makes any difference?

Thanks in advance for any help!

The 24M has a modulating gas valve and when it is in the Auto range it fully utilizes this function. A short answer would be. if the return temperature is coming back some what lower than the flow the boiler sense this and will burn more gas to compensate. When the difference between the two shortens it ramps it back down and will burn less gas.

    Hope this answers your question.

P.S. The 24M is the system version of the Compact combi boiler so are very similar so have a look at Vokera for the Compact manual.

I think I understand; it tries to bring it to optimal temperature faster but burns more gas to get there, am I right? But then it calms down once this temperature has been reached? So, in theory, the house should heat faster and it would ultimately be more efficient?
