    Hi, I am working on a short script and was wondering if anyone knew if there would beanything, legally speaking, to prevent say a 12 year old appearing on a quiz show such as the weakest link or who wants to be a millionaire where you could win thousands of pounds. A friend who had read my script said that this would be akin to gambling so a contestant would have to be 18. Any thoughts greatly apprreciated! I hate it when movies are factually wrong!

    You typically have to sign terms and conditions before appearing in these shows, these would take the form of a declaration that you have never been convicted of a serious crime and that you agree for your image to be used in promotional purposes and during the transmission of the programme and repeats. It's probably the case that a minor would not be legally competent to enter into such an agreement and that is probably why there is a lower age limit.

    Thanks Coylemj, that does make sense. Although that kind of scuppers what i had written! Would it not be the case that a guardian could sign this on their behalf? I am thinking of shows like britians got talent as they are playing a hundred thousand and a god few people on it are under 10!
