Hi all, having had problems with my security i took steps to update my settings. Im now using firefox as my browser as advised to do. Iv downloaded microsoft essentials, spyware blaster and malwarebytes. Iv also run a new firewall programe. The problem is now when i open my browser it takes ages for firefox to load. When it loads it works fine but if i close the browser and then open it again it wont load. I have to shut down and start up again. Internet connection is fine and same happens if i try to open in explorer. Im using windows xp home edition.I also noticed that microsoft essential cannot download updates, it loads a bit and just stops.Any ideas or help would be appreciated. Thanks

If you have more than one anti virus programme or more than one firewall running then they will interfere with each other.

Two anti virus programmes or two firewalls doesn't mean twice the protection it means the machine grinds to a halt.

Does your new firewall include an anti virus? If it does then you need to disable the anti virus component or disable Microsoft Essentials.

Iv also run a new firewall programe.

There's no need for a new firewall program assuming that you're using Windows XP or later. I'd remove the firewall until you get things sorted out and as FSL said, you should have only one realtime antivirus program running. It's fine to have others available for the odd scan but only one should be running all the time.

ok. when i installed the new firewall zone-alarm i disabled the windows firewall so dont think thats an issue. Not sure if that has a realtime anti-virus program.Whats your advice on either windows firewall or zone-alarm whats better?Regarding malwarebites and microsoft essentials are they clashing?.Also running is spywareblaster. Is this overkill lol

I was under the impression that microsoft security essentials did not have an inbuilt firewall........ http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/default.aspx?mkt=en-us#dlbutton
I have been running Zone-alarm alongside it.
    Have I done wrong?

if its slow, I'm going to put it down to all the plug-in's, the best cure is prevention

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722/

this is the one and only add on you need to prevent anything running inside firefox unless you tell it that it can

it will prevent sneaky scripts from running

granted it becomes annoying to watch to watch a video and have to tell it to run everytime but there are setting on how strict it will be set
