I went to the hygienist today to get my teeth cleaned after being advised by my dentist. However, after getting them cleaned, I now have a rather large hole in the back of one of my lower incisors. Its very sensitive and it wasnt like this yesterday. Is it possible that the hygienist could have chipped my tooth?

probable a large bit of tartar was removed, it can feel funny for a while and be senstive perfectly normal. Google tartar or calculus.

If I had a euro for ever time I heard this question. You had a wall of tartar on the back of your teeth. The hygienist removed the tartar and now you can feel the natural spaces between your teeth. Its sensitive because the teeth are now exposed to the air again after being covered by tartar for God Knows how long.
    Also its freakin freezin

Just back from the dentist. The hygienist did in fact take a chunk of enamel away when cleaning the teeth, and the dentist has since temporarily filled it. Ive to go back in a few weeks if its still bothering me and get it drilled and filled. He was amazed at how this would have happened and very apologetic, as there was no sign of any decay around the hole

Ive had my teeth cleaned in the past and sure they were sensitive, but ive never come away with a hole in my teeth from it.

maybe you had a filling pulled out. it's so feckin hard to damage a tooth like that during scaling if it's 100% healthy. there's a higher chance of pulling the tooth out than breaking it with a scaler.
