given the horrible weather and all hell in the country if, RIGHT NOW the zombies started attacking what would you do?
*Assume they don't freeze in winter*
lets say dawn of the dead zombies;not as bonkers as rage zombies, but not as easy as max brooks.

Well my house is pretty well stocked food wise. I say i could hold up for at least 2 weeks. Keep a low profile until it calms down a bit.
The weather would hinder travel to any safe locations so staying in my house would be the best option :)

ok, am I a zombie or a survivor? lol ..... actually, very few (if any?) threads here from the zombies point of view. I mean, its not their fault that they became zombies, it was prob just genetics that make 99.9% of them turn. Not much they can do about it, its like catching a cold! And, lets face it, they (we?) will be in the majority when it does happen.

Anyway.... if it happened now, and I was a survivor, I would def not bother finishing my shift at work, and I would try to go home and pray that my wife & kids survived also (slim chance really, all 4 of us surviving.... what are the odds eh?). The drive out of the city would be mental .... Z's all over the place, crashed cars, fires, etc. I wonder would I stop to loot some stuff to help me get home? Maybe I would leave car here, and try to walk (run, dodge, hide, run some-more) out of the city, and take a car (4x4?) when I get outside a bit. There is sure to be lots of abandoned vehicles.

Getting home is the priority. All food, supplies, weapons, etc are there. (and the aforementioned wife & kids .... if they are not in school) Maybe I need to plan a grab-bag of goodies to keep in my car? Weapons, food, clothes .... suggestions?

Also, my son and I have a plan (like the fire evacuation plan ... ) that we all meet up at our house and lock ourselves in. Anyone who is absent when it happens will have a secret knock to get survivors to unlock the door. And we stay at home for a few days, then head to secret location out of town.

I live in an apartment block on the second floor in the city centre so I reckon my best bet would just be lay low and hide for as long as I can.

Right at this minute id say scraping it we have a weeks food in the house, so id lay low for the week tape the blackout blinds to the window and keep the noise to a minimum, If i had a few hours to prepare id have to go do a food shop fill the car up with petrol and bring it into the back garden.

Id then work my way around the houses on my rd through the back gardens gathering supplies anything that can be used as a weapon and establishing if there are any other survivors.

Working off those supplies until we have enough for a week or two left and then try gain access to my local shopping centre al la dawn of the dead.

I keep my fubar under my desk just to my left now ever since being caught out by that what's to the left of you test. I'd walk out my front door and immediately engage the Zombies, I wouldn't need to worry about food living in the countryside and having my trusty fubar multi tool in my hand I can simply hunt and kill trusting domestic animals to sustain myself. While I feast on the bounty that the Irish countryside provides the zombie horde numbers will multiply again making my next attack somewhat of a challenge. I'll repeat this process until all the zombies are gone.

Don't zombies eat livestock though? They'd chew their way through every cow and horse in Ireland in no time.

Aways wondered about cross species infection, what would happen if there were Zombie Cattle wanderin around, would they attack us Humans or would they only be bothered about eating other cattle????

And could they digest meat? Does zombie virus induce expression of enzymes appropriate for the job?
Can plants be zombies? What would they do?

Zombies don't eat, their dead their bowels have shut down. All they do is bite.

They have little to no chance of killing too many animals outside of a horde setting and they certainly don't need the food
Something like a heard of cattle trumps a horde of zombies (unless there's a huge number difference between the herd and the horde) simply down to weight and numbers, once one cow attacks the rest will follow suit.

and remember;cows only have 1 set of teeth, they've nothing on the upper lip.So breaking skin is extremely difficult for them and I highly doubt a human jawbone could withstand the strain of biting through cowhide, that stuff is ridiculously tough.

Also, given the time of year most animals would be indoors and I think a modern farmyard shed [cattle especially] would be zombie proof[barriers are about five and a half feet high, once the doors are close you're safe.

back on topic; would the dublin scenario play out different?given that transport is all but dead would the surge from the city not happen? or would it just be slower?

    Fair point about the Cattle

I would expect that if Dublin was infected today it would be about 5 hours before the City was totaly and utterly gridlocked.

Irish People cant drive in the snow at the best of times, so I'd expect Carnage on the main roards in the first hour or two, then the clever people will head for the ratruns, but they're not gonna be any better at drivin in the snow, so those routes will get blocked too, at the 4-5 hour mark I would expect that all possible exits from the city would be blocked.

then your gonna have the problem of ill prepared refugees dying from the cold and reanimating.

    Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay, wont that be Fun.

  • If it came down to it I don't think the weather would really affect me as much as it is now, simple because I'm letting it get in my way now. If I really wanted to do something, the weather wouldn't hold me back. I think the scenario would be much the same as it would any other time.

So firstly, I would get my family together as quickly as possible.
I would try to equip everyone with some kind of weapon, and since we're not Americans firearms would be difficult to come by.
After I got everyone together, I'd get some people to start boarding up the house and the rest of us will make a quick dash to the mint (it's just around the corner) to see if anything was happening down there. I'd say either masses of people would be flooding there- in which case I'll turn around and go home, or the place would be deserted. If it was deserted then we'd do our best to search the place and get ourselves barricaded in there before someone else could steal it from us.
Since the mint is a military base there would be plenty of guns (you'd think) and armoured trucks, etc.
But despite it's obvious appeal I wouldn't say there'd be lots of food and other resources in there, so we'd need to stock up.
I think I'd go to Dundrum town center even though it would more than likely be zombie infested. There's a heck of a lot of everything down there so I'd be willing to take the risk. Anyway, by that stage we'd be well equipped with guns and body armour so I think we could be ok.
Of course, one of my best traits would probably be the thing that kills me in the end: I'm nice. If I saw people that needed my help I would. And, more importantly, if there were people outside the mint that wanted to come in I would let them... After they were thoroughly inspected first, I ain't letting no zombies in 'ere!
And it would be great if I could build up some sort of small society in the mint. I'd probably venture out often to find survivors and preferably people that would come in use, like doctors, builders, hairdressers and generally skilled people.
After a while, I'd probably start thinking about extending the mint. As big as the place is, it can always be improved. I'd try to set up quarantined zones around the mint. This of course would be no easy feet but the fact that it would be difficult and take time would keep everyone occupied and therefore keep us sane. Idle hands and all that...

But, back to the weather. If it continued to get worse I'd still make the effort to get everyone to the mint. It would be far safer behind 20ft walls then in my home.
I might try to wait out the snow storms but more than likely I'd try to do everything in my power to do the above plan.
After all, this is Ireland. How bad can the weather get?
If the snow killed me it would just be embarrassing.
