Red spots/Irritation after shaving

    Hey all!

Dont know if ye could offer me any advice but its worth a shot I suppose?
Im a 19 year old lad and have been shaving for 3 years.

I used to have a Fusion Gamer but by complete accident I tried a Mach 3 one day and it felt much better!

I rinse, apply Total Shaving Solution(Dont know if ye have ever tried it?), a blob of Gillette shaving gel/foam.
After wards I use a Nivea Shaving Balm.
But the problem being Im still left with little spots and a lot of red marks for a few hours after. I've tried shaving at night, which still leaves me with spots in the morning!

I'd love to let it grow but anytime I do, it starts to rub off my collar and causes more pain than if I had shaved!

    Any help at all lads????:o

Maybe I'm bias but after trying everything and I mean everything...electric shavers, mach3, fusion whatever etc I gave up on all of them and switched to a Double Edged Razor.

I used to get a awful rash on my neck and also lots of little spots, since switching to a DE razor in January 2009 I rarely get spots and marks.

    For me I use:
http://www.shaving.ie/products/Merkur-Progress.html (expensive but it'll affectively last forever)
    http://www.shaving.ie/products/Mitchells-Wool-Fat-Shaving-Soap-and-Dish.html (lasts about four months)
http://www.shaving.ie/products/Derby-Extra-DE-Razor-Blades.html (can get a years supply for 14e)
oh and you'll need a brush.

Anyway its a learning curve but it works great for me, I'd suggest reading this thread and then post questions - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055448697

Sorry for stealing the thread. No intentions on doing so. Im 17 and have the exact same problem. I have to grow it for about 4 months before i can shave without being wrecked with spots. Manual looks good. Hmm is it easy to do?

Make sure the water your shaving with is warm

I'm 20 and I'm having the same problem around the general mouth area, I would assume it may have something to do with oily skin. Might have something to do with your/my age.

    Here's my routine:
    Warm water
    Facewash
    Warm Water
    Shaving Foam
    Shave
    Cold Water

I'm using a Fusion and switched from the 4 blades to the precision back blade as I though the 4 blades might be putting the hair askew causing the hair to grow into the skin ---> infected folices.

That hasn't worked so essetianly I have constantly between 6-12 spots around my mouth/moustache area, quite confusing.

You will not do yourself any favours trying a full shave with the precision blade, it is really only for around the locks and nasal areas.

Have a showe before shaving, you need to soften the hair before shaving.
Ditch the multiblade Fusion apart from costI also found the caused razor bumps with ingrown hair.
If you want to stick with a cartridge blade get the Gillette Sensor, it causes less irritation as has less blades. Better still invest in a proper single blade safety razor.
