Typically, in a semi, is this fed from mains water pipe in or from the attic tank?
My machine is in my utility room

I believe the new one's now require the mains to open the valve. However I imagine you might be lucky in generating enough pressure from the attic fall.

i am sure the mains is easier though for you

Dont forget...(incase you have) you no longer require a hot feed.

Generally they're fed from the rising main, seen as they are usually under the sink, and its already there.

There is a hot feed already plumbed into the machine. House is 15yr old

Reason I ask is that if my main water pipe freezes again to the attic and my tank wont fill automatically, the wife wants to know can she run the machine.

My main pipe in comes under the sink and there goes off up to the attic in the back wall of the house. The wash machine is out in the utility so I cant see a pipe directly feeding from the kitchen

Turn off the rising main under the sink and check if the water stops at the washing machine. If it does, then its mains fed. if not, then its from the tank in the attic
