Banging Heating pipes?

Hi, we have a Stanley range that is converted to oil that is heating the water for the radiators. The problem is before the thermostat kicks in to pump the water the pipes bang quite loudly and when it kicks in it sounds like there is bubbles in the system. I tried to bleed the rads but not having much luck with that. We used to have the same banging before when the little tank in the attic needed to be topped up with water but that tank is full now so thats not the problem this time. Anybody got any ideas on how to go about sorting this? The thermostat is set to 70 by the way which I believe is right.

    Thanks

    P

Where is the stat in relation to the Heat Source?, is it possible the water is boiling before the pump and stat kick in?

About two meters anyway where it always was, It could be a boiling sound i am hearing. I was thinking that air got into the system over the period that it was not being used. If I turn the thermostat down to some thing like 50 it gos away but the rads dont heat up to well. It has worked well for years before.

2 meters might be a little far away. Try putting it within a meter and turn the stat down to approx 55-60. Sounds like it's boiling before the pump kicks.
