Methods of online payment (under 18)

I am 16 and I'm wondering what are the options for buying stuff online being under 18 and without a credit card.

I have an aib bank account and I have a debit card (maestro/laser) which seems to be useless online.

I have tried 3v but there are a lot of restrictions with it and theres a 5 euro charge for every top-up which is a lot imo because sometimes you only want 10 euro on it.

Paypal would be good but as far as I know you have to be 18 or over to use it.

I am surprised noone has come up with a method of payment for under 18s or for small payments.

Anyone have any suggestions on this?

Apart from pre-pay cards, there's not a lot of options. Ulster Bank and PTSB offer Vida Debit cards on their accounts, but you may or may not qualify for one of those. You can't open a Paypal account, so forget that.

With the 3V card, there is no surcharge up to and including €20. i.e. You buy a voucher for €20, you only pay €20.

That would be your best bet if you only want to top it up by a tenner or so.

Thanks for all input. I never knew you could top up 20 euro with no additional cost. I will look into 3v some more.

I am very surprised that noone has found an easy way of taking money off of young people online yet. I might have to keep getting my parents to lend me their credit card lol
