Temperature Gauge

I know this is probably a silly question to ask with bad weather and all that but on starting up my car this morning a green light saying cool came on - I think it is a temperature gauge indicator.

Anyway what I want to check is can I drive while this light is on or do I need to wait for it to go out.

Also is it necessary to check anything else on car to prevent this?

    Car is a 06 Yaris

Is this a new car or have you owned it since 2006?

It a new car to me got it about month ago. It passed it NCT in Oct and was serviced before the NCT.

To the second very rude poster -I am waiting to get a manual from dealers as it did not come with car.

The Yaris has a digital display for Speed/ Temp/ fuel level etc. As far as I know evey time you start the car ths "cool" light will come on to indicate that the engine is below its optimum running temp. The light will go out once the engine has warmed up. Obviously, with the weather we have at the moment, it may take longer than normal for this light to go out.
If in doubt, just bring it to your local Toyota dealer and they can confrim this.

According to the the Yarisworld forum guys, its completely normal for the coolant light to illuminate for varying amounts of time depending on conditions.

Have you got a new trendy haircut or clothes recently? Maybe the car is impressed.

We used to have a Yaris and I don't remember ever having that message :(

Thanks for the link to Yarisworld - great information there.

Yaeh I thought that might be it alright but wasn't 100% sure especially as this weather can throw up all sorts of problems with a car.

Funnily enough I had just got my hair done the day before - looks like the car was impressed.
