I have an odd problem five computers running XP Pro SP3 all belonging to same workgroup.

Computer 1 can see all the others and access their shares using network places

Computers 2 - 4 can see all the other computers and access the network shares on computers 2-4 using network places but can only access computer 1's shares if they are set up as a network drive.

It's not a firewall problem as turning off the firewalls has no effect.

It's not a virus problem as I don't have and have never had a virus.

It isn't any hardship using network drives it is just puzzling me as to what could cause it.

If it's not the firewall blocking NetBios advertisements, then perhaps NetBios over TCP is disabled.

    To reset to the defaults.
Networking adapter properties, internet protocol, Properties, advanced, WINS, set to default

    WINS is set to default.

It's a permissions problem they can see the shares in network places and the computer in the list of workgroup computers but when trying to connect get a permissions denied.

This is strange as there are no permission problems when mapping the network drive, or accessing the network drive.
