Is it best to keep gas or oil at a lower temperature and keep on for longer?

    Hi.

I heard that some people keep their heating on for longer but at a lower temperature level instead of starting up the heating a few times a day at a higher temperature level.

What is the best method? I have gas central heating.

    Thanks.

I've left my gas heating on for the last 24 hrs with the boiler set at 1 and the room stat around 19/20 and the house has stayed nice and warm I must add I have a couple of sick kids too.I've used about 24 units of gas in that 24hr period which seems to work out about €12.

My gas heater has a temperature dial with 14 dots. I'm not sure what temperature each dot represents. It is currently at dot 12 of a maximum of 14.
