Well lads the gunclub that I am in does not present much chances at duck. I am really interested in doing some more duck shooting but I have no where to go. I am wondering if anyone knows of a club along the wexford coast or estuary that is interested in taking in new members for next year. Thanks.

Is it that the local club doesnt have access to ponds or lakes or is it that no one in the club before was bothered to draw the ducks into the area?

If the club or you can get permission on land with a pond or lake then start feeding it yourself, draw the ducks in. Put out a few decoys and rolled barley feed the edges. But keep an eye out for rats and other vermin. Feed it for a couple of weeks and after that you will have sport.

Thats what we're doing as our club isnt into ducks either so we on our own innitiative go about it ourselfs.

The problem is we do not have the habitat for duck. There is not a single pond or lake in the whole club area. There is a large village pond in the centre of the area that holds about 100 mallard but that is it. Flashes do appear but these quickly dissapear again not allowing enough time to feed it. A pond did form last year and stayed for the whole winter probabley due to the hard weather. I fed that and shot a few teal off of it. I put up about 15 widgeon and 6-8 mallard and 3 teal off it one morning but managed just 1 teal. There is no sign of this pond reforming because the farmer carried out drainage works during the summer. There is a small river flowing through part of the club but I have walked it many times and never encountered a duck. We are just unlucky I suppose.:(

Ya your right your just unlucky, pity so it is.
Next option is to look a few miles away from your home town. Which you are doing already. Best of luck with it. Sorry if I came across harsh in my first post, sounded like I was accsuing you and club members of doing notting..

No thats no bother, you wouldn't be wrong in saying our club members do nothing though. It is a joke to be honest. Nobody seems to care that the place is riddled with vermin, that people from the local town regularly and blatantly shoot the clubs preserves and that we have practically no land.
I think I will try and get into another gun club and hopefully that club will offer some duck shooting.
    Thanks for the help.

To be honest I would think you don't have a hope. Any clubs in that area are very strict on membership and only allow members in from the locality. You could understand why, given the quality, and rarity, of the shooting they have.

Thanks lads. I was asking around locally as well and got some good news. There is a wildfowling club that has space for members. The club used to be very popular until the goose shooting was stopped but there are alot of ducks there aswell. Thet take in new memberships in febuary so fingers crossed I could be in luck.
