Can anyone tell me the (cheapest) place to get a new IPod Touch 2nd Gen. It's for a christmas present and the prices of the new 3rd Gen from Apple are very high.

    Thanks

The 2nd Gen iTouch was launched in Sept 2008, the current model is the 4th gen, is it a 3rd gen you're perhaps looking for because you'll find it pretty impossible to find a brand new 2nd gen model?

There's one possibility if you really want a 2nd gen. model - the 8GB model didn't change when the 3rd gen model was announced so if you can find a '3rd gen' 8GB model you will actually be buying 2nd gen.

There's usually a few iTouches for sale in Adverts.ie

I'd agree with the above, the 2nd gen is too old to find a new one.
The 2nd and 3rd gen were pretty close but the new 4th gen was updated a lot.
I imagine the person getting would be a bit disappointed when there "new" ipod is missing all the new features

    Thanks for the feedback.

It is for my son and he would be happy with the slightly older version and we cant afford / justify paying the prices of the latest model.

If I was you I would wait and save up for a newer model. I have an ipod touch 2g and it's starting to flag. The recent upgrades to ios4 and above don't suit it so well and it's slower than it had been at older firmwares. There are already a few jailbreak apps that I'd like to try on it butI can't because it's too old and I'd expect that list will only increase.

What about a pre-loved one on Adverts.ie? You'd probably get a nice 3rd gen one for far less than the price of the 4th gen. I know my secret santa family member this year is getting pre-loved ;) It sounds so much better than second hand :pac:

It's the 3rd Gen 8gb I am looking for. Seems to be out in ARgos. Need it in sealed packaging.

Keep an eye on the Apple Refurb store here:

    http://store.apple.com/ie/browse/home/specialdeals/ipod?mco=OTY2ODcwMQ

You might grab one at a decent price.
