Brokers vs Direct Sale

My car insurance is due to expire shortly.

I'm used to going direct for insurance, and haven't had any experience of brokers. But since moving here, I'm told I might get a better deal going via a broker.

I'm with Quinn at the moment, and got the cheapest quote from them going direct.

Would I be better off going to a broker? Would love to get some views on this.

    TIA:)

Depends entirely on your cirumstances. Brokers often have access to deals that insurers don't provide to the public and some insurers do not deal with the public at all.

Just ring as many brokers and insurers as you can. And *ring*, not online, with brokers as they sometimes need specific info their sites don't ask for certain quotes.

+1. Couldn't agree more really. I got a quote through a broker underwritten by Aviva that was significantly cheaper than going direct with Aviva.

Thanks very much for the swift reply. I didn't realise that brokers often have access to deals not freely available to the public...

I'll have a shufti at the Golden Pages then and pester every broker in Cork!

What I'd like is a fully comp policy for a Fiesta 1.25, with windscreen cover for free like I had in the UK. It seems that here, it's extra even with the evil state of the roads.

As well as every broker in Cork, try Britton in Donegal and Arran in Dublin; they're known to dig up decent quotes.

Windscreen cover is free on fully comp with virtually everyone EXCEPT Quinn.

I managed to save about 150 quid on my insurance with Axa by going through a broker, so it pays to shop around a bit.
