Ive seen the Garda using UK plates on their mondeos. The marked vans are a publicity stunt. 45 unmarked vans coming in the new year.

i only found that out today!, only the vans that are actually sending out fines are marked, there are other vans "monitoring" speed that are unmarked, they mentioned the van that was burnt out in louth was monitoring speed only and was unmarked!

there are ky and kk reg`s afaik, from the pictures i have seen you will see the warnings all over the back of the van before you will see the reg

Incidentally, if some believe that some speed camera vans might have UK reg plates, perhaps it could explain this odd story.

Replica. Not an offence to have a replica Irish Garda car in the UK but it would be to have a PSNI / Home Office Police one.

Font *looks* wrong. No radio aerials. No roof lights. If you google the reg plate you find other photos and there's no strobes on the parcel shelf, etc, that'd you'd get in a Garda car with no roof lights.

Basically, its a prop or someones toy.

AFAIK that's a prop used in the making of the film "The Guard".

can anyone drop a picture of actuall van?

I am sure Gardai do change reg plates on their unmarked cars but can't imagine them changing them to or using English plates as its more hassle than its worth.

I would imagine it's far easier to get some false Irish reg plates knocked for unmarked Garda cars then it is to use English plates. Plus, not sure about this but someone on here may know, their may legal restrictions on using English reg plates in the Republic, plus if the Garda was involved in a crash with false English plates on, could look very bad if the matter was in court or the media, for whatever reason, then the cat would be out of the bag big time. Just my 2 cents anyway.

Edit; Also regarding the above picture, pretty sure the Gardai don't have hatchback Mondeo's as patrol cars, I have certainly never seen one before. Estate and saloon only, I thought.

Used for a film, made by an NI company. Driven down using NI plates and then fake ROI plates put on for filming.

    Not Your Ornery Onager

Gardaí changing plates on an unmarked car - no; on an undercover car - very probably.
