    Hi guys,
i need a rover or range rover guru to help me with a problem or 2

i need to find out weights and sizes of rover v8 flywheels

i have 3.5 rv8 engine that was auto,i want to mate it up to a cossie t5 gearbox and i am told the flywheel is very heavy and to get a manual one.

now,are all manual rover v8 flywheels the same?
the sd1,range rover and disco v8,are they what i am looking for?

i know i can get a flywheel lightened but should i get the manual or lighten the auto one

auto dosn't have a fly wheel as such it has a torque converter a big container full of oil
A manual has a steel flywheel afaik all v8 rover flywheels are interchangeable allthough the car sd1 etc ones are lighter than say a range rover or land rover one

    thanks for that info,
I assumed it was a flywheel i was looking at on the engine.
i must go out and have a look and see whats on it,it was definatley an auto range rover it came out of.

if the torque converter is full of oil ,can i just drill 2 holes and let it drain out thus lightening the unit?

right,i went out to see what was there.there is only the ringgear for the starter, the torque converter was not on it.

so that makes life easier,i need a rover sd1 flywheel,i never said but the engine/gearbox combo is going into a mk3 cortina hence the need for the lighter flywheel, acceleration vs power:D

I assume the T5 box is a manual in which case you need to remove the torque converter and flex plate and fit a flywheel from a car, as Landkeeper says, the Land Rover flywheel is heavier. Alternatively go to one of the masses of V8 specialists like Real Steel, RPi, V8 Church etc and get a racing flywheel. Don't forget you'll need a spigot bush for the end of the crankshaft.

What are you putting it in? There's lots of V8 forums out there like http://www.v8forum.co.uk/forum/index.php?sid=65c5e60d073941e43349bf8342530cbe
