    Hi All,
I recently posted a thread the cost comparison-sustainable buildings vs traditional buildings but have since reviewed the title of my dissertation document and changed it to the 1 above. Having read the responses to my previous tread...I am unsure as to what route to go down as regards my dissertation. I was considering using my revised title with the following hypothesis:
By initially incorporating passive construction methods and technologies, one will save more money over the life cycle of the building in comparison to the initial savings made from using standard timber frame construction.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what route I should take???
what is there opinion on the above title and hypothesis???
Any feedback would be much appreciated!!!
    Cheers,
    PintGuzzler

This is what my wide cavity wall build cost:

I also used 70m2 of external insulation on the old part of the house Im extending, 150mm EPS which cost 70 euro per m2 which is around the lowest price available, around 100 euro per m2 is fairly normal.

Roofing is more tricky as it depends on the roof design. Single or two storey houses with flat ceilings (ie not using the attic) are WAAAAY cheaper than dormers or houses with converted attics, roll out insulation is costing me 3.25 per m2 for 8 inch thickness, vs around 20 euro per m2 for 60mm softboard and 18 euro per m2 for 9 inches of pumped cellulose, along with doubling the slating battens and expensive long screws to get through the softboard, and 15mm OSB boards for airtightness at 15 euro per 8x4 sheet (2.88m2 I think). Add airtightness tapes and labour and the sloping roof gets expensive. Still happy I did it this way though as it adds a lot of character to the house.
