Have you tryed conecting it to a monitor also are you geting the same trouble in the bios hold down f2 and keep pressing it when powering on to get in to the bios.

What is the model of your vaio I no you have vgn but what vgn the vgn line covers 100's of differnt models.

That laptop has the GeForce 8400M Gt GPU that is what is broken you have only two choices either a new motheboard or reflow the gpu and plese dont listen to any one who says pop it in the oven to fix it if your going to get it fixed do it the right way

Check the front bottom corners of the screen for a vgn number and check http://genesis.sony-europe.com/instranet/ccil_sony/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=35880&l=en_GB&m=VGN-FZ21Z to see if your one is covered.

As far as i no only the laptops with the 8600 were recalled not the 8400 its a pitty as the 8400's are failing just as much

Id say you would be looking at about 150 for a motherboard on ebay if you can find one then you would have to be able to fit it your self as if you bring it to a pc shop you would be looking at 300

if you can fit it your self it is worth it if not i dont think it is
