    Hi,

I'm involved with a small company in the UK and we are thinking of expanding into Ireland. What are the legal steps and options involved in setting up a subsidiary here? Do we need an irish limited company to trade? What are our options?

    TIA

    Hi Moycullen

It is usually done by setting up a separate Irish Company over here. In this way if it is set up properly here viz Irish resident, it can avail of Irish Corporation tax rules and not UK.

It is also possible to operate using a branch or agency of the UK company but this will mean that the profits are esentially subject to UK tax with a credit given for Irish Corporation tax suffered on the same income.

    Kind Regards

I thought any EU registered company could trade perfectly happily in any other EU country. Just once you go over a certain level you have to start charging the local rate of VAT.

    Hi Robinph

Yes you are correct re VAT. I was referring to corporation tax though.

VAT should not be an issue unless you are trading with non registered persons.

    Kind Regards
