Help - Winter grade windscreen wipers ?

Do such things as winter grade windscreen wipers exist ? My windscreen wipers, which where fine before the big freeze have frozen solid on a few occassions lately and now dont work at all, when they thaw they are the wrong shape and are now harder than they should be, and just skip uselessly across the windscreen, if they make contact at all. Now with temps going down to -8 nightly, if I replace them I could be looking for a new pair again the next day:( I have to do a lot of driving during this cold spell, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also recommendations for screenwash that doesn't freeze. I put all weather screen wash in the bottle yesterday, but it froze on the motorway again today:mad:

So the linkage works, it's just that your rubbers aren't working?
You could get some silicone blades, apparently better I don't know.

Or get silicone oil spray and spray the blades liberally and also the linkage/moving parts.

You may have to use more concentrated wash, get some at Lidl if they have those big bottles left. I used it in mine and the gfs car (50/50 with water) and it hasn't frozen.

Thanks for that, yes the linkage does work.

Actually with the thaw going on at present the blades seem to be returning to normal, seems they just dont work on the motorway at -8 then I might as well be using a plank of wood to wipe the windscreen.

I'll try the silicone spray to see if that does the trick. Do you need to let it dry before using the wipers to avoid getting the windscreen bunged up with silicone ?

I just sprayed them while on the screen (did put some newspaper behind) but they did smear a bit anyway. Supposed you can remove them and spray them inside and let them rest for a while before putting them on again.

Cold weather will affect all the rubber parts on the car so may as well go over all exposed rubber parts with the spray (door rubber etc) - don't forget the locks.

Ah door rubbers, dont mention the war !:D They froze solid yesterday too, two back doors welded to the car after driving from Newbridge to Naas. Then, even though I had locked the doors from the inside after trying and failing to open them, when I drove into Dublin on Naas Road as soon as I got into the relatively milder air the door rubbers thawed and both back doors popped open (and I mean open) while I was driving
