While having a look at the modules for the next few semesters, I'm left wondering what new software am I going to have to get used to?

    Multimedia & the Web - ?
    Database Technology - ?
Graphics & Interactive Design for WWW - ?
    Visual Programming - ?
    OO GUI Programming - ?
    Web Authoring - ?
    Enhanced Visual Programming - ?
    Dynamic Web Design & Development - ?
    Smart Device Applications - ?
    Interactive Application Design & Development - ?
    Mobile Applications Development - ?

Also, from year 3, semester 5, there are "Elective" modules. How many of these do you have to take?

Not sure I remember all these correctly, I'll answer the ones I do.

    Multimedia & the Web - ?
Database Technology - MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server, I can't remember which.
Graphics & Interactive Design for WWW - Photoshop, making buttons and retouching photographs.
Visual Programming - Visual Studio using C#, easy enough. Drag and drop interface design with background coding in C#, which is similar enough to Java but with slightly different syntax.
OO GUI Programming - Java Swing programming. Same JGrasp IDE, but your programs will have buttons to click rather than outputting text to the console.
    Web Authoring - ?
Enhanced Visual Programming - More of the same, but with database/web connectivity (I think)
Dynamic Web Design & Development - Fun :pac: - PHP, Javascript, HTML, AJAX, SQL, making a web based game (we made a Blackjack game).
Smart Device Applications - Similar to Visual Programming, developing apps for Windows Mobile using Visual Studio and C# (I think).
Interactive Application Design & Development - More about the design than the functionality in this class. Learning about fonts, golden rule, colour schemes etc., leading to a design project in Flash with a little ActionScript.
Mobile Applications Development - J2ME programming for java enabled mobile phones. Easy enough, just java with all the useful bits taken out.

I've forgotten a couple. Can't have been too awful :P

You supposedly pick two of the electives, which with the 4 mandatory classes gives you 6 classes like any other term. We hadn't enough people in our class to make it worthwhile splitting up, so we were all given the same classes, and no choice. Didn't get robotics

    Thanks for that!

Although, kinda sorry I asked! :D

You'll be grand if you go to class and pay a bit of attention. I didn't need any outside research for any of those classes as far as I remember.

So far so good - the biggest problem is during the lectures, when all the groups are together, the chatting is riduculous, and very distracting.

The list looks a bit daunting, especially as the most complicated programming I've ever done was on a VCR (remember those?).

We're at the "Nested Loops" bit in OOP, and even some them are head wreckers!

database technology is only access not SQL - doing it at the minute. SQL comes next term for us!!
