Help:No heat/pressure from new electric shower

    Hi guys.
My brother had a new Mira Go 9.5kW electric shower fitted. When I turn it on I get water flow but no hot water and really poor pressure. The plumber told my brother that if the shower didn't work straight away, he should press a small red button on the bottom of the unit. I pressed this in but the button went up into the unit and hasn't come back out. I now have water coming out of the resulting hole. Has anyone any ideas?

Yes its a mains fed shower...Is it connected to the mains....or is it connected to your attic tank..

    You will need to check.

If its connected to the mains then it might need a single impeller booster pump.

Where did you buy the shower and what made you pick it...

what previous shower was installed was it 7.5kw/8.5/9.5 etc? is the cable 6mm or 10mm cable? if 6mm how many metres away from the meter box is the cable likely to run?

no idea what this pressing of the red button is.. never had to do that in my life

also mira go is a b&q made shower if I remember and they are made with cheap crappy parts and ive only fitted one before in my life and it was similar, really poor pressure and slow to heat

Thanks for all the quick replies. I ran in a new 10 square so I don't think the problem is electrical. I'm not sure wether it's connected to the mains or the tank. I was under the impression that all electric showers are supposed to be connected to the mains.

most are but theres also a few that can be tank fed as they have a built in pump to boost the pressure for low pressure areas. mira go is mains fed though.

    Don't they all have pumps?

What's the purpose of the primer button. Have I broken it?

You will need to check its connect to the mains because its a pressure problem by the sound of it... Confirm it... dont guess, its important.

    Nope..

    Power Shower: Pump
    Pumped Electric: Pump
    T80 mains shower:Unpumped
    Electric Shower:Unpumped.

purpose is to fill the tank with the heater element with water before the electric tries to heat it. e.g. trying to avoid boiling a kettle with no water in it

just had a quick scan over the manual at

    http://www.mirashowers.co.uk/onlinecatalog/pdf/1079319_w2_c_mira_go_electric_shower.pdf

no mention of priming, can you take a pic of this button you pushed and I might be able to tell you what it is/what you've done etc.

It'll be Thursday before I can get to the house so I will do then.

OK. I finally got a chance to get down to the house. The shower is taken off the tank. The documentation says to take it off the mains. However, a friend has just informed me that it is illegal to to take an electric shower directly from the mains. I'm back to square one now. Can anyone shed some light on the subject?

Firstly your friend speaks bull..... ;)

Its not illegal to take a shower off the mains. Its however another thing to have a shower work right off the mains as triton will attest to...

    You have 2 options.

    1. Connect the shower to the mains....

    2. Buy a single impeller booster pump and interupt the supply from the tank to the shower and fit the pump.

I would go with option 1 as its cheaper however if the mains supply is as poor which can be common outside dublin and cork you will still need to disconnect it from the mains and re connect it to the tank with a booster pump.

For the record... I think the only thing its illegal to do with the mains is connect anything over a 1/4 horse power to the mains.(However this could be 1/2 a plumber will better advise.)

I'll go with option one. Thanks for your help.
