Questions for online store gurus

I want to start an online store selling, let's say "tennis equipment". Where in the world do i find good suppliers that provide tennis products, balls, rackets etc etc and at a price that I can make a profit?

For instance, My local sports shop sells a tennis ball for a quid, how much would he make, 20c, 50c? Where would my sports shop source his gear from?

Also, would the sports shop have a catalogue from a 'distributor' (is this the correct term) and order what he wants this way?? or would he contact the manufacturers individually and order from them that way?

I am very confused as you can probably tell :|

Thanks a million for the reply PSK. I should have mentioned that tennis is only an example. My niche is a bit smaller, but still a sport.

Know I'll prolly get flamed, but china is always an option depending on the quantity you need...

If going this route you need to be careful, get your samples from a few different providers if its alot of stock it'd be worthwhile going over and checking them out, if you can find providers in the same city, meet a few of them. Again depending on quantity may be worth checking the order before it leaves the factory or having someone do it for you.

Thanks mate. I have considered china alright, it's just the products I have found on alibaba.com and made-in-china look very cheap. I would like brand names, just not sure how to approach them :\
