know plenty of guys who have tried fixing themselves and got it working again.
The kit on that ebay item is for wipes and thermal compound.
You can get the videos off youtube yourself, and you still need to get the torx screw driver and heatgun yourself anyways.

Take your time, be patient and you'll get it working.

However, there is no guarantee it'll work long term. In using the heatgun you could cause other damage, warping of the board which will cause other issues in the future. And future can be 10yrs or 10mins.
Getting it repaired is expensive, as is a new Slim. However a new slim has a guarantee - a repair will only warranty the work done for a time period.

The term "Cheap YLOD fix" is an oxymoron, you can go cheap or you can get it fixed properly (a lead reball instead of a lead-free solder which is what it has).
