I've had friends preaching the wonders of these boots to me, and I think I'm ready to fork out for a pair. Are they really enough to keep my feet warm and stop me from falling all over the place this winter?
I'm a size 6.5 so should I go up to 7 and just wear thick socks? Do they take long to break in? The ones I want aren't leather, so will they take as long?
    These ones!11821016.png

And while I'm on the F&A board, will they go with purple? I'm useless at putting colours together :o

Docs won't keep your feet warm and they won't stop you slipping. You need thermal socks for warmth and that goes for any boot. As for grip, well, Docs don't have much (if any) of a thread on them, you'd get better grip with a pair of wellies (and thermal socks).
If you are worried about slipping then get a set of snowgrips, about a tenner a pair online for the cheapest ones but you can wear them with any boot.
Best boot recomendation for warmth (with thick socks) and grip (but I still went over a few times last year) are good quality hiking boots from an outdoors shop.

On the plus side they are lovely. :)

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

I got my Docs in a size 5 but I am more of a size 4, I wear really thick woolly socks and find that keeps my feet warm. I find that in snow the boots are great it's only when the slushy snow comes that I have trouble keeping a grip. I'm a big lover of Docs and would wear them in any weather :D

I've actually found that my Docs have had a good grip over the last few days - but then again it has mostly been the powdery snow that I've been walking through I suppose.

Definitely agree with wearing thick socks with them, there's these ones you can get in Dunnes called welly socks. Two pairs for €4 I think, and they're sooo comfy and warm. I find if you wear regular socks with Docs they can cut your ankles a bit. And do go up a size in them, they fit a bit better that way I think.

Also, I think purple would be really nice with those ones (: Purple tights/leggings and a black dress would be lovely. Wear what you like anyway, colours don't necessarily have to match :D

I wore docs into work today, I was slipping and sliding in them going in and out to work. But that was because there was ice all over the path! In the powdery snow they are great. Lots of wolly socks are needed to keep your toesies warm, I had two pairs of knee socks on under my docs in work today and my toes are still cold! :(

I think that some docs will never break in, I have a pair for the last 5 years and I put them on last weekend because it was cold and they tore the backs off my legs. Just make sure you have lots of socks/really thick socks on! :) I have two pairs of 8 hole docs, one pair about 8 years old and the other pair about 6 months and neither have been broken in properly, but when you buy a pair of docs you have them for life.

I'm gonna buy a gorgeous purple pair of slip on docs after work tomorrow. I'll let you know how I get on with breaking them in as they are soft leather. I'm also considering getting another pair in black for a Miss Claus outfit for Christmas! :P

I've been wearing my Docs in the snow and they've been grand. They don't have crazy superior non-slip skills, but they're doing the job. Wore them with tights and normal socks today.

Ice grips are getting loads of bids on ebay. Considering getting some myself for my boots if weather doesn't improve. At least docs are water proof and they'll keep your feet warm if you layer up!

I got these ones last year and they were awesome in the snow last year...didn't fall at all!! Also these ones are wool lined so even when I was just wearing tights with them today my toes were toasty!!

I find them really good for grip in icy weather. I wore them all last winter and only fell once, while walking down a big hill.

AFAIK they only come in half sizes, so you can get a 6.5. I actually find it more comfortable to buy them a size small and wear them with thin tights, I get lots of rubbing and blisters if I wear them in a bigger size with thick socks.

    Thanks people :)
I think I'm putting them on my Santy list.

And I have hiking boots on right now, they're so fantastic :D
