Sony Vaio F12 or alternative?

    Hi All,

Thinking of buying the Sony in the link below.

    Sony

Will be mostly used for gaming, Photoshop and CAD and is the max for my budget at present. I have read good reviews and am aware that it can be noisy due to the fan.

Is there any other laptop that I should be looking at in the same price range or preferably lower?

I like the look of the Macbook pro and the iMac 21.5 inch (desktop), but the Sony seems to offer more value for the price range.

    Any help would be great.

    thank you.

Yes only if you buy in ROI though and on very limited models.

    Thanks leemurta,

Still leaning towards the Sony one as it has a good spec for the money and I havent come across anything with as good a spec for any less.

I was actually looking at the same laptop from the same site myself.

However I've become a little nervous about ordering from laptopsdirect after reading this thread:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055365923

I'm still willing to chance it but have been looking into alternatives also.

Mainly the new Dell XPS 15/17. It has some great specs for the price.

Now I'm torn between the F12, the new XPS and the Studio XPS 16.

Thanks for that, I never spotted that thread. Kinda worrying!

I also checked out the Dells too, good piece of mind if something goes wrong with them.

I am still tempted by the Sony though, will take a few more days to make up my mind.

passingthrough: I will for sure, if I spot anything other than the DELL's :)

Well I ordered the Sony and was told it will be shipped today or tomorrow at latest due to the adverse weather conditions and this is totally understandable.

I will up date this post once I am in receipt or not, what ever the case may be.

Fingers crossed that it will be a smooth transaction and I hope to have it by next Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday this is giving them some extra time for courier disruptions on the quoted 48hr delivery.

Is that graphics card powerful enough for high end gaming?

Depends on what you mean by high end gaming.

It will play a lot of the newer games but not all at the highest resolution. Its considered a class 2 card and a list of games and frame rates can be found HERE

For me its more than enough.

I have Fallout Vegas on the way for the 360 :D

Got a courier dispatch note earlier, it left the UK today as collection was delayed due to adverse weather conditions, which is fair enough :)

Will see how I get on and report back. :)

That code refers to this laptop on laptops direct.

    Passingthrough:

Just to let you know the laptop arrived a half hour ago and I am setting it up now.

The company emailed me 3 times yesterday to check if I had received it and contacted the courier on my behalf and I was told it would arrive by lunchtime today and it did.

For the record, I did not purchase through their laptopsdirect shop but through their Ebay store as I felt this would give some (minuscule) added protection.

I paid less as I made an offer on it and saved a bit off of the asking price.

If you want any further information, just PM me.

For now, it looks like a sweet machine and I will report back once I have it set up and am using it a bit.

    :)

Hey Tikkat3, just wondering if you have a link to the ebay site for that laptop. Can't seem to find it. Cheers.

    Hey Invaderjim,

    The item number: 140462899686.

You will have to ask them if they post to Ireland as apparently they are fickle as another forum member contacted them today to make an offer and was told they dont post to Ireland from their Ebay site?

Worth dropping them a message anyway to check as they have around 88+ showing in stock.

I must say I had no hassle at all but I guess, it depends on who you get to deal with.

    best of luck :)
