How to tell parents about new gf?

This is a strange one and probably really stupid but I need some advice about how to introduce the new girlfriend to the parents! Its not that she is three times my age, an ex-jail bird or anythng like that! She is 19 and I'm just 20. The thing is I'm an extremly private person and never tell my parents anything even though I'm still living at home! She is my first proper girlfrind and any other girls I've been with have only been on a very casual basis so I didn't tell anyone! If know my parents would be delighted for me so I don't have a clue why I'm nervous about it! I think it might be something to do with the questions that will follow and as I said I'm extremly private so people asking me questions drives me nuts!! Anyone got any advice on how I can slip it into conversation without making a big deal out of it?? Hopefully its just first time nerves!

You're aware of the Nike slogan?

When they start making a big deal which they will, you can't get around that, tell them: "please don't make a big deal".

I'm a super private person too.

The best thing in my opinion is just bring her to the house and be like this *Sarah. And leave it at that. They should figure out shes your gf.

If questions ensue just answer what your comfortable with and say well i don't know if thats any of your business to anything else. If you are a private person then they will know not to push it any further.

I'm very private too. Though, if I ever have anything to say to my parents, I circle the issue with the one that wears the trousers - my mother. my parents remind me of Dessie and Kay in The Snapper. picture the moment they find out Sharon is having a baby. My Dad: "you should have told us sooner... like before it happened". The hen: "What will the neighbours think?!".

You're making it a much bigger issue than it needs to be imo. Just mention it casually that you've seen a girl for a little while, and not to make a big deal of it.

    Good luck with that :pac:

Your exactly like me OP, except I'm 22 and only recently told my parents about my gf. Used to see other girls before but never said anything, mainly because I knew it wouldn't last and didn't want to have them asking the "So why arn't you two seeing each other any more" talk. Plus my brother would bring his new girlfriends home after about a week or so, so we were the exact opposite.

I was forced to tell them after about 6/7 weeks, she ended up in A&E with side pain so I went to go site with her while she waited etc. The conversation was pretty much

Dad: "where are you going on a Sunday afternoon"
    Me: "A&E"
    Dad: "What why?"
Me: "been seeing a girl for like 6/7 weeks, she's in A&E atm, so I'm going over to her, see ye" and walked out the door to hearing questions being shouted by my mother from the back garden, bat like hearing.

Tell them when your going to meet her in town or whatever, when you only have like 5 minutes to discuss it, and then leave. They'll have their little "yeay for our son" chats, and then expect 7,000 questions when you get home. It's all really harmless don't worry about it. Sometimes we just have to grow up and get on with these things.

    G'luck OP!

    Humour might work.

Try this over a cup of tea sometime: "Mum, Dad, is there a form I have to fill out to notify you of a new girlfriend, or do I just bring her home some time?"

If you make light of it, they may be more comfortable with it too.

    Be at peace,

    Z

PS: Note to self, leave forms on the hall table for when sons want to bring a gf home!

"I've met a girl. I like her, I hope ye like her too."

    Simples. :)

    Do what I did.
Bring her home announce her existence in the kitchen, soak up everyones look of shock, go to the bathroom and let them sort it out.

    It was amazing =D
