I'm looking for a new carry on bag that will work for Ryanair 55cm x 40 cm x 20 cm. and I want it to weigh less than 2kilos - no point in using more than a fifth of the allowance on the bag.

I've had a look around but nothing seems to match - lots advertised as lightweight are in fact 2.5k+, I do need wheels as I've a bad back, don't want to buy online as I would like to see and feel it first.

    Anything out there to suit?

I bought from these people http://www.flylite.uk.com/Lightweight-Luggage-Solutions.aspx The delivery was very fast. It all weighs next to nothing and seems pretty robust.

There was a deal on when I did it - case, foldaway bag and backpack for about £50.

Thanks very much for the reply. I did see this online but I wouldn't buy luggage online unless I had handled it first - are these available in any retail store?

Not that I could find. I just took a deep breath and clicked "buy"! No regrets.

    Hi Trisha

Looks like what you're looking for is lightweight luggage that is durable. That's usually a challenge, but I think I may have found the perfect piece! I use a Samsonite. I find it significantly lighter than the earlier generation of bags. And even though it is light, it has a super solid structure.

    Thanks

    I bought this
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cabin-Max-Backpack-Approved-massive/dp/B002Q5APX4/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_2
recently, it's super light has the right dimensions and can squish down even smaller with the tightening straps.
Not sure if it's available in bricks and mortar shops here.

    god tip that.
The weight savings are made by ommiting a proper metal telescopic handle.

for me that'd normally be a step too far (a long handle gives a good leverage on the bag and makes it "lighter" to pull over longer distances), BUT at the same time - when Aerlingus had their IDIOTIC 6kg carryon limit, you were overweight with just socks and jocks in a proper samsonite rolly bag so a bag like that could have its uses!!

I am on hunt for same. The Bag Shop has several outlets in Dublin city and one in Stillorgan. They told me few weeks ago that they will have a lightweight trolley bag in stock soon. I think price was 39 euro. I have travelled with a soft shopping bag on wheels that I got for about 6 euro but would prefer something more suitcase like.... easier to manage if needs checking at securtiy for example. There are also rucksacks with wheel option. I have seen someone with one who just cut off the back straps and used as a soft trolley bag. Try school supply shop? Really do not need the robustness of mini suitcase when with you at all times. Also with a soft bag it is easier to squash into the 'crate' but rigid bag is unforgiving if not exact size.

here is a wheeled backback version, and cheaper than just backpack probably due to the extra weight added by trolley

    EDIT- as posted above (woops)

this lad is only 680 grammes and is the absolute max size allowed.
It has backpack straps, so you dont get the arm pulled off you by a badly designed, non telescopic arm, rolly bag.
Seems to be the optimum design possible max physical size, and no metal frame or wheels which only add weight and limit the number of rashers you can bring in your handluggage!!

I bought one of these last year and am very happy with it.It has been used 5/6 times at this stage and no complaints .As has been mentioned it doesn't have a metal handle but the one thats used does the job.I have managed to put enough clothes in it for a week long trip.
