My iphone 4 bluetooth can't pair with anything, just keeps on searching forever it seems . I'm on 4.1 and was wondering if anyone has this problem and updated to 4.2. Thx in advance.

I'm not sure about the iPhone version of IOS but the iPad update listed "improved bluetooth support" in the list of changes.

What are you trying to pair it with? It may not be working by design rather than by bug.

I'm trying to pair it with a Sun Aqua bluetooth ear piece. I use to hv a Nokia 5530 and it worked flawlessly with that and with my laptop as well.

Even gaming with my bro (3g) through bluetooth it can take awhile for it to find the phone, even when they r right next to each other. And when it's going it has lag issues at times, lag issues which he never had when pairing it with an itouch.

There seems to be a lot of people having bluetooth problems with the ip4 from what I can see on the intranet. Some with my exact same problem, endless searching...

Like I said, it seems like a common thing with the IP4. Some say it's a firmware issue, let's hope that that is the case...

Tac I've tried an app called roqyBT4 but still no good. If u hv any suggestions to other apps that might help, let me know and I'll see if I can find it and give it a go. Thx.

I have to say, 4.1 brought a huge amount of updates for bluetooth. and truth be told, i have never had any problems with bluetooth on the iPhone, perhaps try a restore?

Okay, this has the potential to be an epic piss take, but I'm going to assume you're both genuine.

Bluetooth on the iPhone supports very few Bluetooth transactions/profiles. It allows you to mainly pair audio devices, and by using specific apps you can transfer some information - iPhone to iPhone only. You can't send videos/ringtones/pictures from other phones to the iPhone over bluetooth.

To the OP, is it possible your headset has been paired to too many devices? Some handsfrees only allow pairing to 4 devices, some less, some more. Might be no harm finding out.

A headset is a slave device in a Bluetooth relationship, it (the headset) doesn't remember who it's paired with so the point you're making is invalid. The headset could be paired with 100 devices no problem but it can normally only be active with one master device at a time though some of the more sophisticated Bluetooth headsets do have the capability to flip/flop and be active to two masters at the same time, an electronic form of polyandry if you will.

My big beef with the iTouch and Bluetooth (lack of) support is that I cannot understand why the iTouch won't pair with Bluetooth GPS devices so that I can use location services when I'm away from a Wi-Fi node.

For example, say I have an app on my iTouch with a downloaded database of Topaz filling stations or AIB ATMs or Starbucks or whatever. I have no access to a Wi-Fi node but I have a pocket GPS receiver which can transmit location data via Bluetooth, the iTouch should be able to receive this data but it won't because Mr. Jobs won't pair with the GPS receiver.

Probably because you don't call it by its correct name......:D

Thanks for that, i honestly thought that the bluetooth on Ip4 was the same as on nokia's and other phones, even a google search threw up load of forums with people like me asking this question and nobody had this answer.

It has been the same since the very first iPhone.

Just a quick search in Google with the words 'iphone 4 bluetooth problems' and u can see that there's plenty of people having a lot of bluetooth problems with the iphone 4. Some say that their headset works perfectly with the 3gs and other phones, but a disaster when pairing it with the iphone 4. Some pairs with muffled sound and others not being able to pair at all.

I've reseted the iphone, reseted the headset, it can see the headset but can't connect (headset is right beside the phone and in pairing mode). And this headset paired with my laptop and my old Nokia phone without any problems at all.
