UPC cable box interference and Ethernet?

    Hey folks,

Just moved to Ireland recently, and picked up UPCs service in Dun Laoghaire. Can't complain about the quality so far, though alas it's the MMDS service so no fibre-based service for me (yet?) :(.

Two questions that I hope someone might know the answer to.

    1) I've got an LG 32LH3000 (complete with USB port turned on :D), and when the cable box is displaying the basic guide at the bottom, or a scene with lots of white, I'm getting a hum through the speakers. I've flipped to a non-cable input, and the hum doesn't occur, so I'm fairly sure it's something about the signal from the UPC box. Has anyone heard/seen this before and know whats up?

    2) The UPC box has an Ethernet jack on the back. Is it worth plugging it in? This isn't the HD service, but it is the DVR service.

Oh, and a third question - does anyone have an insight into when DL will get the fibre upgrade? I know the UPC site says aiming for end of 2010, but the last sales person I spoke to said 12 - 18 months!

No, it's a cable modem and it's not enabled. It's there so they could provide broadband through it. You can't access the box via LAN or anything like that.

Cheers for that, figured I was hoping too much. Just leaves the hum and the fibre to sort out :>
