Had braces, 10 years on teeth are crooked again

I don't know if it's my own fault or the orthodontist's fault for not giving me advice on what to do after I got my braces off or a mixture of both but either way I've ended up looking like I never had braces in the first place. My two front teeth especially are overlapping and just look awful. It's something I've tried to ignore but looking at a photo taken of me from the side recently it's really noticeable and it's getting me down.

Now at 30 I really don't want to go down the braces route again, especially after I spent 3 years wearing them. I'm over the fact that they're crooked again and I wasted thousands, there's nothing I can do about that now....apart from braces is there anything else I can do about them? My teeth aren't in the best condition, I think from the overlapping I'm more prone to cavities....is there anyway that these two front teeth could be taken out and replaced with false ones? Or would they still be crooked? Is my only option braces again? I'd have no problem in losing the teeth for false ones if it made my teeth look better.

    Thanks in advance.

I have braces on now 10 years and 2 months, started out with a retainer when i had just turned 9, im now 20 and only getting them off on friday :)
...but 10 years and 4 surgerys down the line, they look worse now then when i started off!
Im left with 2 gaps right at the front of my mouth so clearly visable and there not small gaps either! my tooth wandered around my gum and eventually embedded itself in the bone under my nose so im a tooth short! and my other gap is because i have a tiny tooth its actually a milk tooth because the tooth in my gum came through my pallet so another tooth missing! after all that i now have to fork out €2200 for an implant and a further €580 for a crown! Researched getting work done abroad in bulgaria or hungry but when i added everything up it still works out the same price range! Utterly heartbroken to say the least but i know exactly how you feel!
But replacing your HEALTHY teeth with implants would be mental! you'd be paying around €4400, and they'd have to be replaced every 10-15 years which would be more money and hassle down the line!
Best thing to do is get a retainer to wear at night, as rediculous as they are, they really are the best thing for it in my opinion, not as drastic as braces but it should straighten your teeth out somewhat so definately worth looking into....and a heck of alot cheaper then braces (again!) I'll have to wear one at night when i get mine off which im not really looking forward to but at this stage i'll just have to grin and bare it haha :D

Cheer up you are ot the only one

    I have been there too.

Got braces at 17 out at 20.
10yrs more or less back to square 1, one front tooth overlap under 2nd front teeth not very noticable to others but to me it does and if i do a nice smile you cant tell, but when i do huge smile show all teeth, you can the 2 front teeth crooked. One bottom tooth is pushed back behind teeth
If only I knew to keep up appointment once a year for orditist checkup, it could have been caught early before it got worse. or could have got a retainer refitted
Also it didnt help that i was using removable retainer cos eventually they didnt fix proerply anymore and i stopped wearing cos it hurt too much, duh why didnt i got back to the dentist

So now just this year, got 4 wisdoms removed, wearing a retainer on top and a lip bar on bottom to make room for the teeth to move and restraighten again, back on braces next year for 1-2yrs top, I hope:rolleyes:
Defo get the permatent retanier behind teeth after.
Im more toleable with it now than when I was teen.
I use to get upset when it hurt but now i just grin and bear it- no pain, no gain.
    Best of luck :D

i was a dental student when I got my braces on and at that stage they didnt really understand about permanent retention. Now most orthodontists will advise permanent nighttime retention (can be fixed or removeable). I also did not want to go back into train track braces so researched the Clearstep/invisalign braces. Much more aesthetic and far more comfortable. they are perfect for relapse cases. would certainly go down this route before extractions. I have seen a lot of patients who have had teeth out to get "straight denture teeth", every one of them regretted losing their natural teeth.
