Clutch Noise, among other things!

Having a few worrying noise problems at the moment! Here's a few details.

The noise goes away when the clutch is pressed.

Scraping noise when at very low revs in 2nd gear.

When accelerating there is a wooshing kind of noise. Most audible when at lower revs in 5th and 6th gear.

I assumed it was a release bearing problem and had the entire clutch including release bearing replaced. however, this did nothing and I think the noise could even be a little louder now!

There is no vibrations from the car that would lead me to believe its the DMF.

    What do you guys reckon?

I would concur, it sounds like the DMF. The problem now is that the DMF may bust the new clutch.

It is not an usually economical to do one without the other these days.

Did you get a look at the DMF when the clutch was done?

Unfortunately I didn't mention to the garage to check the DMF. A mistake which I may pay dearly for! I'm presuming the DMF wouldn't be checked unless the customer asked?

Unless they are complete tools in the garage they should check and give an opinion; the VAG techs seem to recommend replacement by default.

I'll give them a call on monday and ask if they had a look at the DMF.

Assuming the DMF was ok, is there anything else it could be?

Had the same problem on my V50 (Same car)

Its most likely the Axle mount/bearing, sounds like a scraping noise between 1600 - 2000 rpm, was around 400 euros to sort at a Volvo dealer, its pretty easy to diagnose, just needs to go up on a lift, press the clutch in and it gets slightly louder and then goes away.

The dealership was pricey but I didnt mind paying for quality work, one indy I went bought it for 200 meter drive and said DMF.

Another one said it was normal and maybe it was a wheel bearing.

You need someone that knows what their doing.

If it was the DMF you'd know, it would be chattering the whole time and sound really bad.

Thanks Keith. I'd say my best bet is to have a volvo dealer check it out. Yeah I think DMF is a bit of a serious diagnosis.
