Has anyone had any experience installing aftermarket HID kits into the new mondeo (2007-)

I have tried to get an "Ultra" H1 and H7 kit installed and apparently it wont fit into the mondeo light fixtures.

The kits on convert2xenon.co.uk appear to fit the mk4 mondeo, but I'd like to hear some first hand accounts before i buy one.

    Thanks!

H1 and H7 are two different types of bulb and are not interchangeable. Which type is fitted to your car? Maybe you're thinking of fitting HIDs to both high and low beams. Generally they are only fitted to the low beams, would it solve your problem if you only fitted them to the low beams?

    Hi Wheelnut,

    Thanks for the reply!

Yeah I know that the H7 and H1 are both separate. I want to fit both high beam and low beam HIDs, as i've had them before on another car, and i reckon going from low beam HIDs to high beam incandescents would seem like a step down with the light output

they must fit as they are the same bulbs

in some sort of the cars u need some special holders /bmw/audi/mercedes
but i dont think u need it for mondeo...

i havent install them in this car but cant imagine how h1 bulb cant fit h1 socket?

    hey feelites,

I think it was the H1 that wasnt fitting, they showed me in the garage when they tried to install them, it just wouldnt fit in the light fixture. They said they could have glued it in place but they werent too happy about doing that.

Maybe it is a case of looking for a special holder for it.

    Thanks for the reply!

Is the problem bulb (H1) in the high beam or the low beam?

The problem with HIDs is that they take a few seconds to come up to full brightness and that can be a hindrance in the high beams, for instance if you want to flash the lights. However it's a problem that people can live with if they want the brightness. In my own case I have used HIDs on the low beams with ordinary bulbs in the high beams of a four-light system and I was happy with the results.

As Feelites has pointed out, the fittings are the same. So I suspect the problem must be the size of glass discharge tube. It is bigger than the glass part of an ordinary bulb so it might not fit if the space between the reflector and lense is small.
