Hey guys, Oblivion is my favorite game ever, so I guess I will like Morrowind. Luckily I got a lend of all the disks and now have it and the two expansions installed. I figured this could be a megathread on all things Morrowind, cool things to do and cool mods and stuff.

I will start it off, just installed it there, any mods you would recommend for complete noobs at the game? I don't want any game changing ones really, just the general little improvements and refinements which the community have no doubt come out with, to make the experience better.

I would get some texture and graphics mods only for now.
This is a fairly good guide, but I'd leave out 10 and most of 11.

Some of the official plugins aren't included in the GOTYE, so you should get those too.

The learning curve is quite steep at first but when it gets going, it's

Stop by the Fields Of Kummu at night if you can. :) Nicest looking area on Vvardenfell.

Thats the difference between Morrowind and Oblivion for me. I can feel nostalgic about areas of a computer game because it felt like I was the first person in the world to stumble across them. Morrowind is a superior game because you feel like part of that world, Oblivion did not capture the same feeling.

    Also, Morrowind's music is sweeeeeeeeet.

I was going to post that guide myself. I recently bought a new copy of Morrowind and installed/modded it up, looking great.

Currently working my way through the mages guild as a battlemage/alchemist. Went on a 'fortify intelligence' potion creating binge, ended up creating ones granting 100,000+ intelligence for days. Pointless, as there's nobody in the world who can afford them :P

You broke the game! It's more fun when you're desperate for cash and take risks in stealing.
Oblivion never really tempted me into robbing much with all the leveled items and everything generally not worth as much. Morrowind, on the other hand turned me into a complete kleptomaniac. From the big vaults to everything to every pillow in Balmora... well actually, after the vaults, you don't really need the pillows.

I still steal if I can avoid buying. Took the glass armour from ghostgate, sword of white woe from a tower in balmora and the masters alchemy set from one of the mages guilds. Tense half second after you take something, waiting to hear an angry shout from behind you.

Check out creeper in caldera or the mudcrab merchant on an island down south. You have to build up stock in their inventory so you can trade back and forth with them.

Trade, sleep 24hrs, trade, sleep 24hrs, repeat ad infinitum!

Waiting for that " NAAAAOOO YOU DIE! " or " Filthy Swit! " from a Dark Elf guild member or person :D

It's been a while since I've played Morrowind, and I only stumbled on to it after searching for games similar to Fable. It's a great game and I loved. Some of the most frustrating parts of it, such as quest goals not appearing on the map, that were fixed in Oblivion were the ones I missed the most. Anyone remember trying to find some wizard's staff at the top of a mountain? Oblivion made it to easy showing you were to go.

The lack of fast travel, outside of transportation both physical and magical, really made you appreciate how large the map was and how varied it could be. I used it extensively in Oblivion now but it just robbed the game of that something special. Like that quest/pilgrimage for the Tribunal where you had to travel from the South all the way to the North without speaking to another character? Epic.

Was there an expansion released for morrowind?

Was there an expansion released for morrowind?

    Yep, two. Tribunal and Bloodmoon.

I really liked Bloodmoon, never really got into Tribunal. I really enjoyed the sense of progression working with the East Empire Company

Has anyone tried playing Morrowind on the xbox or xbox360? I still have my computer copy, but I hate trying to run it on my laptop

I played it on the Xbox, though not on the 360 as it didn't seem to be patched to run it back when I bought it. I always prefer playing games on consoles (apart from RTS) because the controls are more fluid.

My favourite bit in Morrowind was always the days worth of flying you get for doing some shrine thing.

Oblivion hit the nail on the head when it came to combat, magic, and graphics, but the scope of Morrowind always wins that round.

    Hey all,

I'm just wondering as anyone here run Morrowing on a machine that is running Windows 7?

The only reason I ask, is because I can't get Fallout 3 to run on my Windows 7 machine and I'd like to know before I go out and rebuy Morrowind.

    Cheers

Yeah, morrowind runs fine on windows 7 64-bit.

Is the reason fallout 3 isn't working due to your hardware?
Morrowind's requirements are fairly basic by today's standards but it mightn't work on integrated graphics on computers, say, maybe more than 5 years old. If you're running windows 7, you probably don't have a problem with morrowind unless it's a netbook.

Go to the start menu, type in dxdiag and press enter.
Post what it says your processor is, and how much memory. Next click on the display tab and note the name of the graphics card.

You shouldn't have any problems with morrowind so, probably at maximum even with enhanced resolution mods.

For fallout 3, things to try might be
Make sure you have the latest drivers.

    The latest directX
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3
    Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch

If it's still not working, try running in compatibility with earlier windows versions (Right click on file->Properties->Compatibility tab->Windows XP).

    Cheers mate

Actually, do you reckon my machine will be able to run Skyrim?

Skyrim requirements haven't been released. One one hand, it's a big step but on the other it still needs to run on current consoles. The performance from that GPU is something similar to the power of a console. Console should be less than Go 7950 GTX and yours is ranked just above it on http://www.notebookcheck.net/

I would be inclined to say, yes, it should. Maybe not at high detail but you will know better when the time comes.

I remember I essentially turned into a god in that game after completing all the quests, it became very easy, just flying through the world firing nuclear bomb explosion spells just for the lulz. Although that was near the end. Only problem is trading, eventually you'll get so rich that the npcs don't have the money to purchase certain items but there is an imp you can trade with who regenerates his money when you sleep.

Love this game. Got so annoyed when I killed one of Vivec's guards and got attacked by his followers/followers wouldn't trade or give me info

Not to worry, think it's about time I start fresh since I haven't played since before Xmas.

The Fang of Haynekhtnamet is such an awesome weapon :)

I would give anything to be able to wipe morrowind from my memory and play through it again from scratch. Love that game, so much, but i've played through every aspect of it many times over at this stage >.<

You can attack the ordinator guards, just not get caught by one while wearing their armour. Pretty easy way to complete the game was jumping up onto the top of the smith in the vivec foreign quarter with a bow and a couple arrows (usually the spark arrows you could buy there because they were class) and shoot the guard. Once he was dead you'd take his armour and sell it in that smith, a full suit of whatever it was came to like 40k. So you were well set.

    Fantastic Game

First mod should be to get rid of the Cliffracers :pac:

I haven't played it in years now but this thread has got me in the mood! I never tried the expansions so I might pick them up
