Advice on sacking an accountant

Just wondering if anyone has any advice please. Myself and my wife have been dealing with an accountant who has done our tax returns for 2009 back to 2006. We have received money from the revenue, and he has charged us a fortune for his services. We are no longer happy to continue with him as he has created a complex arrangement in order to make more money for himself and his firm. If we sack him now and move on, what would happen in the event of a tax audit? Would we have to get him to represent us in an audit or could any accountant do that ?

How about not engaging his services for the next Audit?

Sorry to be pedantic, but you cannot sack someone that is not employed by you.

As said by cson you just need to hire another accountant. There are set procedures that will be followed when one accountant takes over from another.

A revenue audit can be handled by your new accountant. All books and records going back 6 years are your responsibility to maintain for revenue inspection.

Thanks for the clarification on that, smcgiff !
