At any time, had they come in and put the doomsday message, I think we could have done a lot of things. But there was no sense, I can tell you, of that. I mean, there wasn’t one meeting with the Central Bank guys, not one meeting where they were putting the red lights on. Not one meeting. And never did Brian Cowen or the financial officials come over to me to say that the whole thing, the bottom, was going to fall out.
from interview for a new book by David J Lynch, quoted in the Dail yesterday by Joan Burton
I'm astounded at how low the weasel can sink.

Do I remember the same guy sometime in 2007 telling us that he didn't know why people warning us about overheating in the economy were not committing suicide...

So you might safely say without fear of being successfully sued by Mr. Ahern that he is a proven liar.

The deluded turncoat thinks he still has a shot at the park, rather than being shot in the park.

Have not much time for Bertie of FF, so not defending them ,
    but is this not true
that neither Brian Cowan as, Min Fin or the financial regulator made any warning noises to Bertie.

    Regards Rugbyman

I'm pretty certain the Central Bank made warning noises too, if it comes to it. I think the man still thinks he's got a Teflon coating.

I know brian cowan is getting alot of stick and deseveredly so, but this w****r still thinks the people love him. when you go from the real beginning of all this ahern was the head man. I'll give this to brian cowen at least he's taking all the crap thrown at him even though he should step down, but he hasn't said anything about bulletproof ahern. And i'm no fan of cowen. sooner the better ff is out of politics and we try build some future if thats even possible at this stage with interest on loans at over 6% aparantly.

He's right. NO MORE CULCHIE TAOISEACHS! The thought of Enda Kenny flying to America as our next leader trying to stop Intel from pulling out of Ireland makes me want to cry with despair!

Actually, Haughey was born in e was born in Castlebar, County Mayo in 1925 (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Haughey) and Bertie was the poor Dublin lad corrupted by him

Seriously though, there is no evidence that incompetence is an exclusive privilege of either the country or of big cities.

Until I see Bertie & Cowan squirm whilst in the dock (be it a court or inquiry) then I dont think I'm ever gonna have faith in Irish Govt. again

I think the best thing to do with Bertie Ahern is to ignore him.
That in itself will make his life a misery...

Would love to ignore him, but the fool has made it difficult by popping out of a cupboard everyday on my TV...

(OK I know the ad has been pulled)

but still the attention seeking twit is everywhere.

Frankly, I don't care where the Taoiseach is from, as long as they do their bloody job.

    Lets have a look:

WT Cosgrave - Dublin (9 years)
Eamonn De Valera - American - Limerick (22 years)
    John A Costello - Dublin (4 years)
Sean Lemass - Dublin (10 years)
Jack Lynch - Cork (4 years)
    Liam Cosgrave (4 years)
Charles Haughey - Mayo, spent most of his life in Dublin however, which formed his outlook. (7 years)
Garrett Fitzgerald - Dublin (4 years)
Albert Reynolds - Roscommon (3 years)
John Bruton - Meath (3 years)
Bertie Ahern - Dublin (10 years)
Brian Cowen - Offaly (2 years)

So more or less, counting the Taoiseach, Dublin has had a fair bit of control in that time. I will however admit having a chip on my shoulder against Mayo, due to Haughey on one hand, and the Flynn family on the other. But lets give Enda Kenny a chance.

If I were to take the Taoisaigh I like, Lemass, Fitzgerald and Reynolds would be the three. Bertie was fine until the early 2000's, mainly for the continuation of the groundwork on the peace process laid down by Albert Reynolds. Cowen inherits a poisoned chalice, although thats not much of a defence.

I wonder are those numbers more do to with population levels that anything else?
The population is concentrated in Dublin, so the bigger number of votes probably would occur from there.
    Thoughts??
If anything, that would further add to, well, my argument anyway, that we need a voting system that is based on a candidate campaigning nationally and not just locally.
Btw, I fully agree with Bertie and the kitchen cupboard......pity we can't just close the door and leave him in there..

While the evidence of the carcinogenic properties of Teflon are disputed I think it can be said with certainty that Bertie has been the main cause of the cancerous growth of Irelands property market.
Watching the vid posted earlier in the thread it is reminds me of Cassandra weeping and moaning about path being followed by the leaders and being told to STFU.
