this march is a joke! what do the unions want? to borrow more unaffordable money to keep up the gravy train. Im the first to say we should burn the bondholders, but NOT to sustain ridiculous political and public service wages and pensions, or the wealthy with tax break and loopholes left right and centre. Or the long term unemployed, who have no interest in every working or making a contribution. Id have the biggest sympathy for the middle class, they are the biggest victims and whipping boys.

to hold up traffic and cost the state more money?

They don't seem to give a hoot about the country all they seem to be interested in is keeping their members outrageous wages high.

the bloody unions have no moral authority! what the hell would beggs and his ilk know about economics?!

I think most of the people on the march just want to voice their anger at the situation we've been brought to. I see nothing wrong with that whatsoever. I understand the cuts have to be made, but were I in Dublin I'd probably be on the march just to make my fury at what's happened heard.

What they call it makes a huge difference, if it was against the sham government, crook bankers etc Id agree with it. But if it is a "march against austerity" i.e pretend nothing has changed and that "we are worth it" Its a sham.

I'm at the march. Traffic has had to be diverted. Boo ****ing hoo! There's apparently 20,000 people here and I wouldn't say half of them are marching under the umbrella of any union. Most I'd say are here to say they want the bondholders burned. I'm one of those. It hasn't a single thing to do with the pay I get. I'm not even in the Public Service. If you're not happy to pay taxes to pay off billionaire investors who tried to make a huge profit on you but failed without you being willing to even attempt to do anything about it, that's absolutely fine with me. But don't ****ing dare look down your condescending noses at those who do want to at least let people here and elsewhere know what we think.

I totally agree with you. I think that is a worthwhile cause to march against the bondholders. And I reckon in the foreseeable future there could a march simply to say "burn the bondholders - not the citizens"

Not really as pathetic as feeling sorry for yourself while watching the toy show because you can't afford any of the "cool stuff" they're showing while the next day calling others out in the cold, trying to send a message to people "pathetic" from the comfort of your own warm house though!

In that case, I apologise if I was a little confrontational to you in my response.

Ps. There are banners like that here

Unions marching to protect overinflated wages we can't afford can GTFO. I just hope the snow sorts itself out, I am taking the kids to Eurodisney tomorrow.

ever think the reason their is only 20,000 people there is because of those self same unions , they are as corrupt and discredited as any of our politicians , bankers or developers

In France, they had huge protests because the government want to do the necessary thing, raise pension age, expenditure reform.

In Ireland, we will have to have a protest to FORCE the government to do the right thing i.e. expenditure reform.

I find it laughable that unions are out marching against the budget -they are precisely the people who were pandered to in it, they're not taking any pain that the rest of us aren't taking, and they have a bigger paypacket to cushion themselves.
We are all going to be taxed through our tonsils to preserve their wage levels.
Does nobody remember the term BRAIN DRAIN anymore?

well its swelled to almost 60k now according to the cops.

Still not particularly impressive considering there are over a quarter of a million PS workers alone, and there were well over 100k protesting a war thousands of miles away a couple of years back.

It alot like pissing into the wind anyways, talk about protesting after the horse has bolted.

Im just back as we could only stay for 2 hours. I have little time for the unions and went because of how I felt on these actions to bailout bankrupt banks and their investors. Im glad I did and by the looks of it there were a lot more than unionised people there. There was a LOT more than 20 thousand.

And BTW if we are at the stage where the right to peacefully protest comes second to some traffic inconvenience or gards being made busy we are in a sad state.

Thought Jack Oconnor got a very frosty reception for a union organised event.

The readings of the proclamations of independance got universal cheers

Probably to destroy the € but they won't realise what they're doing until it happens.
