I am looking to move down in cars in the new year. I would like peoples opinions on a few cars that I have in my favourites list.

Budget is under 30k. Must haves: Auto, Leather, Sat Nav, diesel, not huge mileage.

    The options are:

    BMW 520
    BMW 525
    Merc E220
    Merc CLS 320
    Audi A6

So, opinions on the pros and cons of each please and keep it sensible. Ta.

From the above models I would take the CLS without a question. It looks the best and it has the best engine. The other cars are too common (especially the BMWs), you can see them in every corner. I wouldn't be fancy the interior in BMW, it's... not good looking .

What do you think of the post 08 Audi A4? I think they're nicer than the current A6 and they're not a whole lot smaller. Here's a nice example -

Just kidding, I'd go BMW each time, unless the A6 is quattro.

Thinking outside of the box you can get an infinitely better specced mainstream car that will stand out because very few people buy top-spec cars in Ireland.

Of the ones you mention, to get a nice one I imagine you'd have to go to a 2007/6 plate to get what you're looking for for under 30k. The sat-nav being the big stumbling block. If I had to pick from that list it'd be a facelift/"new" A6 even if it is only an oversized Passat.

That Volvo is an interesting alternative. Very nice. So is the Subaru and it also comes with a Diesel, but for the asking price I think there is nothing wrong with petrol ;).

What about the vw passat CC. Its stunning IMO. Its still an Audi (without the snobby badge),but its so much better looking than the cars you have listed. IMO obviously.

You can grab a used one for less than 30k. I'm assuming the OP is looking at the used market since none of the cars he listed can be acquired new for less than 30k!:D

Any Audi with Quattro is looking pretty good now that "Big freeze 2" is hitting. I never liked sequels......

For the very few days here where the road conditions will be an issue with snow and ice, just get a snow sock if you get a bmw.

These snowsocks are like mass psychosis, They not meant to drive daily on a motorway or in town, well you can but after a week or less you going to buy new ones ... Winter tires all the way BUT

Nothing can beat Audi Quattro here and that would be my choice.
