Third World Countries that aren't able to pay back the interest on their debts....

You know, when I was a young lad, I remember the geography teacher telling us about how some third world countries in the world, were so bad off and so poor, that they weren't even able to pay the interest of their debts. And that struck me as being in an awful, terrible, horrific, almost unimaginably bad position.... it's as if other countries literally own your country when that happens.

And I just find it grimly funny that this is exactly and literally the way Ireland is now. At least countries like Namibia are able to grow their own food... we would have a lot of trouble doing so: the government forcibly and superficially reduced the price of food so much as to do Paddy the gombeen farmer out of his livelihood, and a kick to the teeth of all the old farmers who helped built up this country for the benefit of an elite few working in government.

I've been saying all of this for years and years and years and almost nobody would listen to me... this was bound to come sooner or later. It's too late now to go back to agriculture, we're ****ed.

Didn't mr geldof and bono campaign to get some of that dept writen off. Hopefully bono can do the same for ireland now and maybe consider paying his tax here instead of holland.

Its true, we are no different now:o

Only thing is in school, they also thought ous that money is the same as debt and those who have the most money are actually those who are in the most in debt.Almost every cent that exists is owed to a bank somewhere, because at some time in history, it was created when it was loaned out.Like you have to ask yourself how are Germany, France, UK and all these countries are able to write ous blank cheques when they are billions upon billons in debt themselves.Germany only payed back the loan of the second world war last week:)

I really should have payed attention when they were trying to teach me macroeconomics in school.

Bono consider doing that  fat chance :P

Irish motto help everyone and themselves before their own :D

Is it true that some of that bailout cash is so we can pay aid to other countries?

Ah well now in fairness, at least when we donate to charities we can be sure the money is going to a good cause.... http://www.independent.ie/national-news/top-charities-defend-fat-cat-ceo-salaries-1062042.html

I dont know how true this is,or how this site is.But here is another example.

This year, we are giving almost €60m in aid to Ethiopia and Uganda,
despite the fact they are ruled by virtual dictators. Yet a respite care
centre in Limerick city has been shut for the lack of €150,000 and
similar services nationwide are under threat due to budget cutbacks in
    the health service.

I'd rather the Ethiopia have the money than them racist Limrickians. Seriously though, truth be told, the least well off in Ireland are still a lot better off than most of the worlds poor :( we can do better than begrudge helping others because we are wallowing in self pity.

I'd rather see a .5% increase in corporation tax than a reduction in foreign aid spending. (sorry google)

If you think Bono gives two sh1ts about his own countrymen and their suffering you sadly mistaken, U2 Inc. moved their operations to the Netherlands so that they could get better tax concessions. It should be made law that the next time that diminutive ***** preaches about upping our international aid commitments while families here are been thrown out on the street because they can't afford their mortgage any Irish person should be legally allowed to ***** the smug out of him.
